But I was watching this youtube video where Jeffery Dahmer talked about his conversion to Christianity when he was in prison. One of the top rated comments on the video was:

The way to get into Heaven is to humble yourself before God. It is precisely your line of thinking--I can do it myself, I'm better, me, me, me--that will keep you out. What the soul desires cannot be known by human knowledge but only through the wisdom of God.

You cannot help yourself. Eventually you get sick, you get old, and you will die. Perhaps this is what Dahmer realized, and he is more spiritually rich for it.

Repentance isn't just about asking for forgiveness and receiving it.

It's about turning away from the sin itself. It's about committing to leaving behind sinful behavior and walking a path toward truth, love, and God. That doesn't mean you won't stumble along the way. Surely, that will happen as we are only human after all, but true repentance means that you will learn how to find your way back when you fall astray because you no longer wish to remain in sin.

Even if you don't believe in God, surely you can see the benefit of recognizing your faults and flaws and seeking to improve the quality of your behavior. Regardless of your beliefs, the Bible has great lessons to teach if you can out aside your bias and try to understand those lessons in proper context.

There is an old testament and a new testament. Obviously, the lessons in the new testament are different from those of the old and override them as well.

If you can't read it without bias, then you will gain nothing from it. It's like letting your hate for the cookie monster prevent you from enjoying the cookie. That's probably a bad analogy, but whatever. We're all free to choose what we do and do not want to believe. No need to get angry or hateful when others don't share your beliefs. Both sides of the religious argument seem to miss this point.
