Looking for a creepy/scary book
About anything, except ghosts, demons, and aliens, I hate those things. The wierder/more original the story the better. The more suggestions the better too, I can read pretty fucking fast and plan to do alot of it in the coming weeks.

Re: Looking for a creepy/scary book
Well I just spent the last couple hours reading "Carrie", I wanted to get that out of the way as it was one I had heard about and wanted to check out. Pretty good, I didint find it scary at all but it was kinda creepy and pretty fucked up, which I enjoyed.

Re: Looking for a creepy/scary book
The Talisman was my favorite book of all time for a long time, but i haven't read it for years so it's hard to say now.
William S Burroughs would be creepier if his books made more sense.

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, easily one of my favorite books.

Re: Looking for a creepy/scary book
when I was younger I read a book by John Saul called Children of the Damned. It scared the hell outta me but I don't know how I'd feel about it now.

Re: Looking for a creepy/scary book
I read that book about 15 years ago. I liked it a lot. Oh what's that amazon? it's available for a penny? Why thank you, i will buy that.
Also honestly, i'm a huge stephen king fan. His work is people driven, the characters usually develop very well and grow. I always wrote it off as trite mainstream crap until i started reading his stuff a few years back. Was blown away at how well he tells a story.

I'll have to second this. Like you said in your next post - a lot of people write of King as just a mainstream, junk food literature. Sure, he writes a lot of that, but he also writes some bonafide, 100 percent good literature.
"It" is one of his best. Brilliantly done.

I think what freaked me out the most about those books when I was a kid - was (like JC Denton already said) the artwork.
Bizarre, scary style. Morbid and surreal. Frightening even now!
