Default "I believe you call it 'The Monster'" (spoilers)

Holy crap was this last episode awesome. It was definitely an "answers" episode for many reasons.

Although the actual nature of the monster was not revealed, they showed so much up front that I'm inclined to think that this is the best we'll get (aside from maybe a handful of stray comments) until the end of the show. Also, a lot about Ben and his past actions and motives got examined/explained...

I was worried for a bit that Ben had actually killed Penny, but Desmond totally whupped his ass, which explains the blood.

We now know why Whidmore is looking for the island, and what his connection is to Ben - revenge, it seems, is a common motive between these two.

We also have a very clear idea of why Alex was so freely allowed to die, even under such terrible circumstances. Damn, Ben.

What's up with the egyptian theme? I have ideas, and I could guess, but it would only be guessing for now...

And the whole "what lies in the shadow of the statue?" was totally foreboding. I'm gonna guess that the three with guns got "possessed" at the temple and are now leading others there. No doubt the question is a cryptic password system referring to the statue from days past.

...oh man, I couldn't be happier

Did you write that, or is that from Hurley's blog? He has such a low profile blog it's easy to mistake him for jsut someone who likes LOST. He's down to earth as hell .

I wrote it just now, but I think his blog was actually shut down due to increased secrecy over the new season. It's too bad, but I'm sure that most of the hardcore fans don't want a whole lot of revealing spoilers without the accompanying plot. I know I don't.

I was watching that episode the other night and thought the girl that asked "what lies in the shadow of the statue?" looked familiar, so I checked, and sure enough, it was Zuleikha Robinson.

Those that watched the short lived series ""The Lone Gunmen" know this woman well. She's the one that played Yves Adele Harlow / Lois Runce.

she was an ultra cool female hacker/spy that kept running into "Byers,Frohike, and Langly" which were the three main characters of this X-Files spin off show.

I expected very much, and I am just a little bit disappointed. Because I think most of the answers we got in this episode weren't very significant ones.

The things that I liked most about this episode:
- How "good" Ben seemed in this episode. He could have killed Danielle and her baby. Actually he disobeyed orders from Widmore in letting them live. Also I liked that he didn't kill Penny and not because he didn't have a chance.
- "what lies in the shadow of the statue?" - Probably my favorite part of the episode. A definite WTF moment! By the way I don't buy the "Possessed at the temple" theory. The temple is on the main island, how would that work? I think they are working for either Widmore or some third unknown party.
- Anubis and the Monster on the wall under the temple. That pretty much assures that the statue is / was Anubis.

Underwhelming parts
- Ben's Monster Summoning. What was that? Just a hole in the ground? Impressive!
- The whole Charles Widmore story was kinda boring. I expected some devious plot generated by Ben to throw Charles off his throne.

Parts I absolutely didn't get
- How is it that Locke knows about the temple. Even more he knows that they have to go under it.
- The seemingly ancient door leading to the "Hole of Monster Summoning" in a house of the Dharma Initiative.

Oh, you're right!

I forgot about the location of the temple...but perhaps there's another similar place on the other island? We still don't officially know how it is that danielle's party got "infected," so the cause could be something that's not necessarily a permanent part of just the temple. It could be something that moves, etc.

and yeah - the statue was anubis, I'm pretty sure - that's why we didn't see the front before, and of course, this only raises more questions about why there's so much egyptian stuff going on in the island.

Perhaps the island(s) were previously located inland, and were part of egypt before the "incident" that might have caused so much paranormal stuff to occur. That means that the temples and such to house all of the oddities would habe been there long before the island was even an island. I've also heard theories detailing how Richard might actually be one of these ancient Egyptian "Gods," which might explain the eyeliner

Oh and the Richard being an Egyptian God theory is really interesting. It's incredible to think that we've got more than a whole season left still, all the twists we're in for. I'm personally really excited to find out about the polar bears

I have heard Locke's "explanation". And I have to say that it was lame beyond belief. How would you feel if they would answer all questions like this?

What's so special about the island?
- It's just special! Period.

How is it that Richard does not age?
- Well, he is just a dude who doesn't age. That's it.

I don't think that Richard

is an Egyptian God. I can't see an Egyptian God being second in command with the Others. I believe that he is some kind of egyptian Highpriest who has been granted immortality long ago either by the island or by some "God" (probably the same thing). This would also fit his role with the Others, as he seems to be the second in command, advisor type. It was common for Priests to be advisors to the Leaders.

Seriously, who knows? There is no way of knowing as we don't even know who those people are.

I believe Locke knows about the Temple from way back in Season 1 , where the Monster tried to pull him down one of the vents (CV). Perhaps - he didn't know about the Temple ITSELF, but, was aware of the vent he almost got pulled to - and knew to look there.

If you don't buy that theory, perhaps, dying and coming back to life on the Island causes you to gain some insight previously unknown to you before?
