Year, true story. 120GB OCZ Vertex Plus SATA II, 2x 1.8Ghz Power Mac G5.

Fucking awesome. Even snappier than before.

4GB memory, 256MB overclocked ATI FireGL X3, etc, etc.

TL;DR: Get an SSD. A fucking fast 8 year old Mac gets even faster, anything can.

SDDs still have a little ways to go before I make the leap. MLC drives just don't have the lifetime they need (I still occasionally use my old 2.5" Quantum Bigfoot HDD damnit!) and the faster, longer-life SLC drives are still too expensive!

Agreed, I just really wanted an SSD and happened across a well-priced 120GB drive when carrying someone else's credit card, even if I could've taken the SLC 20GB drive, that's not enough, I need at least 70GB to run the system and the crucial software and stuff, unfortunately, but still, it's awesome to have an 8 year old computer that ass-rapes half the cheap crap sold today.

It's not going to have a 120GB SSD, 1TB 7,200rpm hard disk, 256MB, 256-bit graphics that can run 2x screens at higher than 1080p, 4 PCI slots, dual optical audio connections, etc.

I'd say that for everyday use [i.e. not hardcore gaming or encoding 1080p H.264 video], my 8 year old Mac is far snappier and more responsive than most people on here's new shiny PCs.
