That's not true at all.

Human societies have always had moral codes, and as a social species, most of us have similar notions of good/bad and acceptable/unacceptable. A lot of that has tended to be put across in religious stories, but to say that religion created that is absurd.

I would beg to differ. The moral values of different societies throughout history only have a bare handful of things in common, and most of it is concerning human sacrifice.

They are narrow in application, but human societies have very different moralities in what they consider to be good/bad/acceptable/unacceptable. Compare Islam to Ancient Egypt to Victorian England to Dark Age France to Modern America to India to China to the Bolivian Tribes to the Serbians to the Mayans to Roman occupied Syria.

The only common link is that they all have some form of blood sacrifice, and that is because the only thing humans share as a species is a savage, bloodthirsty nature.

Oh written language is a fucking waste, for thousands of years people had to take all this time to write down their thoughts just to get it widespread. For all our attempts at real interaction (i.e. language, video, etc) with one another--to establish some mutuality--we ultimately fail to properly communicate our experiences. It's a matter of subjectivity, my words can never adequately convey to you exactly what I'm feeling.

But when it comes to application... it would render our time spent on our beloved BBS futile. Any kind of invention would be useless really, just an attempt to rationalize a lonely existence on a planet we can't explain. We'd be alone, and that simply isn't any good

What is a most useful invention? I say, what unites us more than anything else.
