Got fed up with the cheap chinese crap and put actual Philips D2S 85122 bulbs in the Saturn. Now both sides are the same color and significantly brighter, great success.

Who has a 200ft driveway with no turning circle at the end? I'm sure you could do a three-point turn, couldn't you?

Me.. :[

And no, theres 3 other cars in the driveway so doing a 3 point turn is impossible.

I guess I could learn to back into the driveway, so when I have to take it out in the morning i'd be going forward...

Then let it roll backwards when you come home, genius.

Today I replaced a brake light bulb and filled the windscreen washer. This solved the brake light problem, but the washer fluid still isn't squirtin'. Tomorrow I will check the fuses. I'm going to a scrapyard on saturday so I can pick up a new motor, if it needs one.

Nothing, yet. But I did source a new daily to replace the Falcon (remember the Falcon?), a 4G33 powered '72 Chrysler Valiant Galant which recently trolled the shit out of an all Mopar drag day, by picking up a trophy on the Dyno.. ..51.2hp! This is really just a rebranded Mitsubishi, but it does mean I can drop by both Chrysler shows with a car that is actually on the road and buzz classic Jap shows too.

Oh, and it may have a carb, manual choke, and as many doors as cylinders but it's economical. 4 speed box and 850kg unibody construction, and suddenly quite unimportantly it is also a rear wheel drive. Apparently a mate has a 5 speed box to suit it from a Sigma.

No pictures. Apparently you forgot, but here's a googled image for everybody:

Sweet! We should race, 2002 v Galant. I think I might be making a bit more power than you, apparently you have a 1.4L that made 83 HP stock. Actually it might be fairly close, and I'm surprised it did make that much, my carb'd 2.0L made 100 HP stock. Though I've got a weber 32/36 that would bring that number up to around 120, and the emissions controls have been removed. Would, though I'm sure it's nowhere near that much now

My car is still prettier though.

Default Re: What did you do to your car today ?

It was more of a 2 day event, but I got a new radiator and stuck it in. What a cunt of a job lol. 4 automatic transmission lines to undo(the cooler is built into the radiator...)...

$110 for the radiator + delivery and about 3-4 hours work. Plus the $1.80 for a thermostat gasket and about $25 for a bottle of glycol(just straight, not premixed).

To sum it all up;

1. Remove battery
2. Remove shroud + CAI
3. Remove bottom hose
4. Remove top hose
5. Remove thermostat housing
6. Undo the 5 bolts holding the fan on + power steering reservoir. Push it towards the motor gently or remove it if the clips come off easily.
7. Undo 4x automatic transmission lines(19mm spanner)
8. Remove clips which hold radiator in.
9. Remove radiator(might feel stuck, because of the rubber mounts)
10. Stick new radiator in.(don't forget the bottom rubber "shoes" or the 2 side ones). Don't forget the clips.
11. Reconnect transmission lines.
12. Reconnect bottom hose + thermostat housing(don't connect the top hose to the radiator yet). Also don't forget the thermostat.
13. Reattach the fan + power steering reservoir
14. If I've forgotten anything in sticking it back together, do so. (ie. shroud, CAI)
15. Pour coolant down the top hose, you should hear air coming out of the radiator filler bit. It may be faster to add most of it to the radiator then just fill up the top hose with some.
16. When it is over flowing, lower the hose and keep adding until it is almost out. Attach the hose to the top inlet.
17. If your manual has a better/different way of doing this, then do so.
18. Stick battery back in.
19. Start car, keep topping coolant up until thermostat opens. Stick radiator cap on and go for a drive(short drive)
20. Get back, allow to cool. Check fluid level in radiator. Check all clamps. The usual shit.
21. ?????
22. Profit!

With any luck, you just saved yourself about $300 in labour. It leaked the first 2 short trips I did but it hasn't leaked since(2x 20km drives). Perhaps the overflow bottle was too full or the system itself was too full. Time will tell.

Tips: Measure everything before ordering the radiator. The first one I got was for the second series of my car lol, so had to order a new one. Be gentle with any high pressure lines. You can bend them, but if they get kinked then its game over. If you have those shit spring clamps, spend the $5-10 on the screw ones. You'll thank yourself later. Use the recommended coolant for your car, mine is 50% glycol/50% water. If it is likely to freeze where you live maybe use more glycol or something, I dunno. It's also a good time to replace the hoses if you have the spare $50-100.

EDIT: Check it this morning, still full to the top. Took it for a short drive(130km or so), temp was fine the whole way. 100km/h all the way except for the 60km zones in the towns and overtaking the slow drivers, but the temp was steady regardless of speed. Hopefully it will be fine, time will tell.

One of the lines to the steering rack blew up in the late model during practice. Almost had to do a full on rack change because of how cramped it is on those fittings. Then again, steering racks are never ever fun.

$1,500 (seller has been around mine a couple times for BBQ and drinks), and with this example yeah mate 42,000 miles on the clock and it's rust free dent free all original 2nd owner, it's not even a question. The addition of a wooden beaded mat draped per the sheepskin seats and maybe the OEM wind deflectors. Comes with the ridgey didge wheels and hubcaps spare too.

It's awfully tempting to see how much Dave wants for the 4G63 & 5 spd box, even comes with a turbo manifold though no air curler. But I do have a real project to be working on!

What do you reckon on the engine? Got another mate with a 'box anyway.

If yer gonna daily it and plan on selling it in the future, keep it well maintained as is. Buuuut... surely you can throw a turbo something in there, or even just a larger capacity, well-honed N/A would make it ballsier and more precise to control in terms of oversteer. But I would definitely at least look into a 5 speed and maybe a diff.

I'm not terribly informed when it comes to mitsus, though, but it seems it's the same sort of genre as my car, and my car set up this way would surely be brilliant.

What sort of steering does it use, rack and pinion?

Recirculating ball. At the traffic lights right now, heading up towards some twisty mounting roads (think Hawaii). Will give it a test.

Edit: gave it a fair but considerate flogging for its age, and what I have to report on this front is that the cunt retains the turning circle of a full sized fuckin Chrysler - perhaps even so much to say, a C body, and brakes like it weighs about the fuckin same. Sprinting was different though - considering we know it has fifty fuckin one (51.17) hp at the rear wheels it was able to give some surprise. Power to weight ratio, eh? Yes in the hills sometimes I had my foot to the floor and the other tapping impatiently while I watched the clock and waited for acceleration, but on one occasion I ripped a surprisingly lengthy peglegging skid around and out of a tight radius corner and felt what was sure to be a wheel lifted once or twice through the razorback twisties of Montville, and the little yellow Galant has no troubles chirping those read tires as if it were a canary 1-2 and ripping it 2-3. Good little car.

Already considering the engine and 5 speed box combo offered for $35 from a mate's old daily (Chrysler Lancer). But I do like the originality of the car. We'll see.

Oh and recent congratulations & well wishes to LAE & H, and JS & M . Tis the season huh?

For a minute ere, I was thinking of your old MG. That would be a 'well, fuck me' train of thought. The new one is essentially a Rover, right? Nicer on the eyes than the other 'new' MGs.

I spilled 'New York Fries' on my passenger seat. Sticky as fuck.

What was done on the late model today...

-Changed Front Sway Bar
-Measured for proper distances for the lower A and Tie rod from the steering rack
-Cleaned the Radiator
-Patched a hole in the radiator
-Replaced back window braces.
-Changed gears in the rear end
-Fabed new braces for the front right fender and mounted them
-Fabed new radiator mounts and mounted them
-Adjusted brake bias system
-and a couple other misc. other things

Twas a fairly productive day.

Also might be building one from the ground up for next year, too.

Managed to do 970mi/1520km over about 13 hours of driving yesterday, possibly second only to my 1500mi/2420km 23hr road trip from hell a decade ago, though there have been several in the 8xx or more mile range in between.

Yes, Euros, your driving experience is indeed different than mine.

The most I've driven in one go was 600 miles to collect a forgotten passport. One stop to collect the passport and more fuel, and that was it.

Tell us about your 1500 mile road trip from hell.

Do yourself a favour; look forward to writing that thing off, and go take a look at one of those new Toyota GT86's - labelled a Scion FR-S over here. Surely a far better car considering the reactions it's been getting. Maybe you'll love it enough to not pull a derp and crash it only to have to lie about it to your insurance agent

So after a hell of a week re-working the super late model we went out there and won the fast heat last night edging out first by just a little bit. Feature comes around and we got fucked around a bit getting sent to the back for causing a caution that wasn't even our fault. Made it back up fairly quick from 20th back up to 9th but just ran out of laps.

With the other car we were DQ'ed from tech after qualifying for having a 500 carb on it. We're only allowed to run a 350 on there... Shit happens, thank god someone had a spare though.

Still going strong. Been taking it to some shows and cruise nights while I save up for finishing the body work and getting it painted. Most recent pic I can find:

Noticed a chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp coming from the passenger front wheel. Goes away when you turn or brake.

I hope it's the disc backplate rubbing on the disc
I wouldn't mind if the discs are warped or the pads are worn
I wouldn't be particularly happy if the pistons are sticking and it needs a new/rebuilt caliper
I would be annoyed if the wheelbearing has play causing the disc to rub
