And almost everybody have horsed then so giving them the freedom to own and bear ARMS, OF THAT TIME, WHICH WERE MUSKETS AND RUSTY SWORDS would make them an EQUAL of the US, and even English or French military. Butt ....
But that was then, hundreds of years ago. The US military had came a long way since Valley Forge.
Now they have aircraft carriers, fighter jets, submarines, gunships, computerized, automatic artilleries, tomahawks, m1a1s, a pantheon of HMVs, APCs, AAVs, UAVs and etcs etcs ....... and yeas ..... tactical new-killer warheard .... ....
So anyone who thinks they can really and feasibly defend themselves from the current US government should and when it turned tyrannous with their little capacity-circumcised, fire-mode castrated Princess Zek of and assault rifle has simply succumbed to pure mental retardation.
We ... men of these days have seen it on tv how the Syrians, who're more liberteously armed than your average American citizens, with their mil-spec, mil-mode assault rifles and heavy machine guns, improvised and DIYed rocket launchers and anti aircraft guns ...... artilleries, IEDs .... and who are hardly capable of defending themselves against their tyrannous government ......much less overthrow it .....

If the government turns tyrannical, owning a gun and quoting the second amendment is detrimental, it makes you a target or an enemy.

You might think the ATF destroys all records after a set period. But there is DHS. And CIA. And Echelon.
If the government turns tyrannical, and you own a military style assault rifle, you will be one of the first rounded up and interned.
They know what is out there.
That is a fact.
They don't have counter intelligence agents for nothing.
And good luck fighting a tank.
You don't have the resources to fight a tank. And if you did, counter intelligence agents would find you and you would mysteriously die. There is no reason to have that kind of weaponry stockpiled unless you want to fight the government. And anyone with that level of paranoia could go off at any time.
So, in the interests of maintaining the status quo, they need to be removed from the equation.
Your best bet, if you hate the government or are so fearful of them, is to find leftover Communist sleeper cells. Guaranteed they have sophisticated weaponry laying around, and not all of them have probably been found.
And they would have training and knowledge of how to use the equipment.
However, by doing that you are just painting yourself as an even bigger traitor. And people like that are very hard to find. They do not advertise, they do not go to gun shows, they do not wear camouflage down the street. They are trained and schooled. They keep a low profile because they play a life and death game.
