Papaver somniferum (poppy) question

So there are opium poppies taunting me from outside, and I wanted to know if there was anyone here that had any experience with the plant and could possibly offer advice. I know the typical method is to score the pod and collect the latex that seeps out but that's a bit time-consuming for my tastes right now. Can the plant material be smoked? I imagine it can, but for all I know it will give me a splitting headache or something. I searched around and looked at erowid and surprisingly there is no mention (that I found in a brief search) of smoking plant material. I know the stalks are hairy too, but I don't know if these hairs are like the trichomes on weed buds (THC rich) or should be scraped off prior to smoking.

Well a faster way would be to make tea out of the fresh pods, but go out and score them, any people envy that situation, sure its work, but its basically free smokable morphine. stfu and get to work

I would not smoke them if I were you. If you know their the right kind, your best move by far would be to score a shitload of them and collect the sap and smoke that.

And after you collect the opium you can then pick all of them and make tea out of them. My best advice is to not waste them by pulling them and smoking them. Consider yourself very lucky to have them also.

TL;DR: Score every last one of them and collect the opium, Then pick every last one of them and make tea.

PS: Like the pirate above said, I envy you man I wish I had some pods growing.
