i've noticed screwdrivers with clear handles smell like vomit. mainly craftsman but all of them with clear handles. why do you think that is?

Yeah, actually I have a yellow-ish clear craftsman screwdriver that smells. It has a bunch of paint splatters on it which I always assumed were what made it smell. Guess not.

All of my screwdrivers smell faintly like iron and 'Aussie Export' fish oil lubricating & protective spray. The can's at least 5 years old, shit lasts for ages. I'll be in trouble when it runs out (and it is feeling a bit lightweight), as I haven't seen in for sale anywhere in years.

To answer the OP's question: Many screwdriver handles are made from cellulose butyrate. The Butyric acid used in the process stinks to high heaven. Google is your friend.
