Fuck, dude, just walk in with a notebook.
That's what I do when I'm scouting for barcodes...

Nobody cares that you're writing down stuff; if you get asked WTF you are doing, you are "comparing prices" and continue your work. I haven't been questioned yet. I got home today from Kmart and man, that store sucks.

But, they have 500GB HDD's . They are spiderweb wrapped, but I'm planning a nice trade in for my 40GB when I get $100 (yep, they are overpriced.)

Walmart is building in my town, so I'll have to alert them that shrink is going to be around $50,000

On the normal price tag. Like the price tag, on the shelf.

I'm guessing again. Haven't been to HD for a few months.

When you go to the Home Depot, there is a tag on every shelf, under every product.

This is a large hang tag, they all essentially look like this, but the ones on the shelf are squished.

http://media.photobucket.com/image/h...0/shelftag.jpg

The SKU number, is the 6 digit number, separated by a hyphen, above the UPC. In this case 174-278.

In terms of the approved by, take a walk around your store. Near one of the entrances, or the Service Desk or even the Pro Desk, there will be a metal display that should have a picture of the store manager, and his/her name.

Or, you could go to the service desk, and ask who the department head of whatever department your item is from, is.

When you fill out the tag, write the initials, and make them look nice.

I.e. "Who is the Department Head of Hardware" for a Dremel.

Yeah, awhile back skygear posted about changing the signs. They have to honor what the price tag says. It would be best to have a friend do it.

Definitely Worth Re-posting

The hand written one would be easiest for most but the better one would be the actual sticker. Its important to make sure there is it least a few moments (hour) or another person that places the signage unless you use slight of hand just in case they decide to do a camera check.

Notice on the hand written signage, theres a letter number combo. Yeah, Thats the important thing! The hand written signage blanks are loose all over the stores

This sounds like something middle school kids and retards would attempt. Barcoding is a much better way...

It's not as easy as people seem to think. At all the stores in my area, the self checkout cashiers are very attentive. My friend has been caught twice barcoding (not busted but the cashiers found stickers on the boxes). One time, she was caught by the cashier at the self checkout. The other time, she had picked the youngest, dumbest looking female cashier and she was still caught. Stores are onto barcoding. If it rings up too cheap, they get suspicious.

Middle school kids don't own homes and have no reasons to visit home improvement stores. This scheme could be very lucrative if done right.

Self checkouts are a big NO NO when barcoding... no wonder your friend failed. Of course creating a discount sticker could work as long as you dont get greedy and it looks legit. But IMO barcoding is easier and its a skill that can be applied damn near anywhere and not just one specific store.

My friend has saved a ton of money at those self checkout machines. Guess your friend just isn't as good at it.

Back in the day I had knowledge of such operations. Best practices include having a partner work ahead of you and discount sticker about twice as many of these as you need ( assuming you have stickers to burn). lets say he disconue stickers 6 diamond saw blades down from $100 each to $59 and moves them to the dump table he txts you when step 1 is complete then you swoop in and buy 3 and leave three.... if themanager that does the over ride questions it say "there's a whole display of them on the dump table...." when he checks and see's you are correct you'll get yours without further questions....

Dont get greedy and try to get them for $10
