Yes there are also many hard woods that are around the 400-425°C range. But unless you stir like crazy to get an even temperature throughout your lead, (which to achieve would more realistically be around the 350°C area) the chances of you setting alight to your wooden mould is seriously high. If you should consider this path for what ever reason, I urge you to compact the fuck out of the mould with a hammer to condense it and once finished cutting your desired mould, to scorch it for additional fire resistance or better yet apply a thermally resistant layer.
Personally if I was to ever make slugs (considering you're manufacturing what is a deadly weapon) I'd put in the effort to get a CNC mould done in steel, for what would be a minor cost and for some peace of mind that not only could I could raise the temperature of the lead to a near liquid state with ease and still have the steel hold out. But reach a level of consistency and confidence that what I'd be firing, considering it would be wildly untested isn't going to backfire in my face.

I think the mould is sacrificial in this instance. Once the lead is poured it doesn't matter if it sets the mould alight, as it's already cooled enough to set in that shape. If disturbed obviously this won't work.
Are you sure about the temperatures? Cnc steel moulds obviously aren't sacrificial, cheap. Or easy to come by without questions (for most of these guys).

This, its a one time deal, make it break it if you want to make another all it takes is some time and old 2x4s and a drill bit. Plus if If i was going to spend the money on a cnc milled mold Ied just buy slugs in the first place.

Re: Awesome things to do with shotgun shells
here's a plan for a dart slug. I will test it once I get a large bore shotty. a 12 gauge would have quite a bit of powder in it.

Awesome, I didn't know of this book.
The thing I described was arrived at pretty much between myself and a close friend from here.

Is using a Christian holiday really a good way to celebrate world peace?

True, I agree. But it is used for it, like it or not.
Not going more off-topic than this though.

You can't spin stabilize a projectile with that kind of caliber:length ratio.
The fins are for drag stabilization. That's why you never see anyone doing that, ever.

You can actually make toe poppers with 12ga shells really easily, but not as easily as using a thumb tack and burying it.
Telling you how would be against site rules though, with the whole anti personnel/bomb idea behind it.

Instead of debating hypotheses I'd rather experiment them.
