Re: PS2 Thread?
If you know how to solder and have the tools it isn't too complicated, plus there's a bunch of tutorials all over the place.
I think there are solder-less chips too, but I'm not sure.

I was out of town with my family last week, and we were checking out rummage sales. Somone had a PS2, 1 or 2 controllers (can't recall), 1 or 2 memory sticks (retrograde amnesia is a helluva drug), and 5 games. It was a slim, looked to be kept up very nicely, and the games were all in good condition, too. No scratches, boxes and booklets were nice.
They said $30 OBO, so I could have probably gotten it for less. I didn't have any money on me, aside my debit card, and I don't like borrowing money, even from family, so I just let it slide. Easy come, easy go.
I'll get one at some point again.

Re: PS2 Thread?
Yeep craigslist is full of cheap ps2s. I had to drive out a half hour, I also squeezed the kid out of $10. I wouldn't pay more than 50 bucks for one with controllers and memory.
My gamestop still has PS2 games, the selection is just kind of shitty. It's hard to feel bad about spending like $1-3 on a game.... I just wish they took them back.

Amazon is pretty good for PS2 games, I rarely ever see PS2 games in shops anymore

^Ehhh, I considered it. Their new games cost too much and spending money on a used one would suck if it ended up being damaged. I don't care about games enough.
I just found a random copy of san andreas in my room? I never actually owned my own PS2 before so what the fuck?

Shit, I should say thanks for the recommendations.
I'm sorted for a good while now, keep them coming if you have any more though.

Re: PS2 Thread?
I'd like to reiterate how difficult it is to find old games these days. I'm from the UK and it would seem games have a remarkably short shelf life here; even more so if they're from an older generation.
Other than paying through the ass for rare games on ebay, where can you get them? Seriously, where does everyone's old games go? Surely they don't just gather dust in some cupboard somewhere?

Re: PS2 Thread?
www.graingergames.co.uk is cheaper than CEX for PS2 games, mostly. At least it is in store, not sure about online.
Also fucking Tales of the Abyss, can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet.

If you're lucky you can get them from amazon pretty cheap.
Also look around for car boot sales or local markets, there's one down the road from me where I found shadow of the colossus and ICO for a tenner (both ltd edition with the art cards, both good condition too) because the guy knew jack shit about games.

I havent played most of these, but I do have a copy of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Like Okami, I have yet to play it. My fuckin OCD wont let me play another game until I beat the one Im playing. I got a fuck load of PS2 games I havent played yet. I just bought the fuck outta them because they are so cheap and are getting harder and harder to find.
Black kicked ass though. The graphics on that game really pushed the limit on what the PS2 could do. I also own Shinobi. Its hard as hell, but I felt like I actually accomplished something when I beat that game. In doing so, I unlocked hard mode, but fuck that. I dont think I would ever beat it. If you liked Shinobi, look into Nightshade. Its essentially alot like Shinobi, but shows some mercy with checkpoints.
Oni was pretty good too. The environments are empty and pretty lifeless, but its still fun.

Re: PS2 Thread?
Huge WOOT for The Warriors, though not perfect one of my all time favs nonetheless. I wish my copy worked. I rented it once and wound up beating it, was kinda hard and the controls were typical rockstar-clunky, but man was it fun, the fighting was solid and the atmosphere was perfect - the story accurate as well as heavily developed before the events of the movie. You really got attached to the characters, all the harder to see the critical ones go once you reach the final "movie" stages. Overall a fun game worth tracking down.

You're right about shinobi, I got so fucking mad on that last level. I used to have Nightshade as well but I sold it a while ago.
And seriously, play the whole prince of persia trilogy when you get around to it. Combat system in the first one is awkward and clunky, but story/gameplay is brilliant. And in the second/third one they sort the combat system out.

Re: PS2 Thread?
^^^ Yup. I didn't beat it, I got maybe half way through. It was alright but not the most memorable for me. I can't remember what particular flaws I had against it, I guess the story and characters didn't really suck me in; niether did the atmosphere. I'd have to play it again but I don't have it.

I finished The Suffering a few days ago and now Im playing Okami. Like everyone else that mentioned Okami, it is a damn good game. I havent gotten far in it, but the look and style the game has is great. The paintbrush tool is also cool as hell. Its well done, although I will admit that I have to draw things a couple times before I drew it properly. Using the PS2 controller to draw things can be tricky at times, but that is a small and easily overlooked flaw when it comes right down to it. Its a really fun game.

Re: PS2 Thread?
Xenosaga series is pretty good if you start with Xenogears on the PS1 and follow it through, even though XS2 pretty much is a follow through of a game. :/
Final Fantasy is in its death throes but FFX is still worth buying just for the music.
Star Ocean 3 is a fucking amazing game, and it will help you to piss away at least 200 hours of your life.
San Andreas, you musta got that already.
Gran Turismo 4, but you'll already have that as well.
Tales of the Abyss is a good game if you can get over the slow start.
Dynasty Warriors Gundam. Need I explain?
Max Payne 1 and 2.
Another RPG but Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria is a fucking gorgeous game. If you like shit-hot graphics and action RPGs then it's a worthy addition to your gaming ensemble, or at least to this thread.
Kingdom Hearts.
I would say 'etc, etc' but they're pretty much the best PS2 games available. IMO, of course.

Thanks for the recommendations, I fucking love mecha games. Just bought Steel Lancer Arena International, I can't play it though because my system is PAL, whereas the game is NTSC and I don't have a modchip/swapdisc yet. Have you ever heard/played it?
I also heard about a game called Skygunner, which is meant to be really good. But once again, it's NTSC/Japan only.

I'm not a disciple of mecha games like you are. I played Xenogears for the story and the music, being able to fight as Gears was just a bonus for me, but it was a sweet bonus.
I remember being inundated with a tech demo when the Dreamcast was released It was a mech game that I can only imagine was ported to other consoles after the Dreamcast failed. Seemed a good game at the time, but that was way before the PS2 was released.

Re: PS2 Thread?
A mech game released early on the dreamcast? That could've been Slave Zero. There was a demo of it on one of the first Official Dreamcast magazine issues (those mags were great, so many game demos. Shitty I can't find them anymore...
Also, see Virtua On: Otorio Tangram (I think that's the spelling), The original in the arcades was aweaome with strangely intuitive controls - two joysticks with two triggers each - and it was a third person one-on-one robot fighter, set up like any fighting game. You had an arena to run and jump and shoot and fight and it was good fun. I never played the sequel on DC but I've heard it's pretty good.

One of the best fighting games I have ever played was Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Budokai 2
It's for the Ps2, and I loved it even though I'm not really a fan of sweaty men falling all over each other.
