How to not cut myself shaving?

So it seems that I almost always end up cutting myself when attempting to shave that area under the chin. Everywhere else is fine, but that particular spot always ends up bleeding. Does anyone have a tip or trick or anything at all? How do I do this properly? I usually shave right after stepping out of the shower, and while it helps it's not enough.

you could buy an electric shaver, even a cheap one will do a good job. or you could just be painstakingly careful and shave with the grain and not against it.

I never understood people who say shave with and not against. It doesn't work. Not even with a completely new razor.

basically you're cursed with gruff manly facial hair, but sensitive and effeminate chin skin that is simply not tough enough to deal with it.

it's an affliction, i know, but you must come to terms with it. there is nothing you can do, and it may be terminal.

my hair is coarse as shit but i just use an electric razor, cost me like 10 bucks and its 3 years old now.

If you shave with the grain you may have to go over the same spot a few times but it works for me. As for the chin I just follow the curve and then tip my head back to get the bit underneath but I have a round chin so that may help.

I've always shaved with a razor without shaving cream in the shower with no mirror. My skin doesn't get irritated at all and I never cut myself.

First off, let the past cuts heal for a week or so. Then take a hot shower to open your pores for a closer shave. Make sure you have shaving cream for sensitive skin. Put the cream on your skin. Don't apply too much force while shaving, let the razor do the job. If you shave with the grain, you'll have a coarser look. If you shave against the grain, you'll have a cleaner look. Lastly, make sure to apply some aftershave to help kill the germs that may cause razor burn.

I only ever cut myself when I shave against the grain. Getting that 1mm closer to the skin is not worth shaving cuts.

Microwave a cup of water for two minutes. Let the razor sit in the hot water. Don't let the water cool down much before you start shaving. When you pull the razor out of the water, let it cool for a second then pull the blade across your skin. Put it back in the water and shake out the shaving cream and hairs. Repeat.

I think if you learn how to shave you will stop cutting yourself. When I was a pubescent boy I often cut myself shaving. Practice makes perfect.

First wash your face with a large amount of warm water. Don't dry off, duh. Apply shaving soap (I prefer soap and brush, oldschool). I use a straightrazor. Safety razor is good too. If you use disposable razors, take those with a single blade and not some MACH 5006484654 WITH OVER 9000 BLADES AND ALOE VERA! Look at it this way: if you have six blades on your razor, it's like six razors going over your skin. Need to go over one area twice? Twelve razors. Of course your skin will hate you for that. And you're way more likely to cut yourself.

First shave, go with the grain. Apply shavingsoap again. Go perpendicular. That should be good already, though you can do one more against the grain if you want. Wash off excess soap, apply some aftershave and if necessary use alum. Wet the alum, rub on cut. It'll sting, but it stops the bleeding almost instantly. Alum closes the pores and kills germs, so it can be used as an aftershave too. Just pour some water on it and rub it on your face. Works for me.

I shave against the grain and it works a treat and doesn't cut me at all. I also go with the grain and across the grain, nothing gives me a closer shave.

I use a Merkur 34c with Feather blades.

Also one thing to note is that aftershave is pretty much pointless. It's just a gimmick from razor companies to sell you more shit. I ran out of it a while ago, couldn't be bothered to buy more, and I don't notice any difference in my skin.
