When you are trying to flex muscle, you do not run aground. During training it can sometimes be acceptable.
The Chinese claim these waters as their own. If that was the case, they should be intimately familiar with them, and not run aground. These are not Chinese waters. They are Filipino waters.
If China started on the Phillipines fair dinkum, the whole world would jump in and crush China.

Hence they go after a small country like the Phillipines, who hasn't had a US military presence for some time.
They would be insane to try tactics as extreme as these on South Korea, Japan or Taiwan. Because they know they would get stomped.
