Default FBI: We need wiretap-ready Web sites - now

CNET learns the FBI is quietly pushing its plan to force surveillance backdoors on social networks, VoIP, and Web e-mail providers, and that the bureau is asking Internet companies not to oppose a law making those backdoors mandatory.

I hope stuff like this continues, it helps to undermine the US governments right to exist and make knocking the rotten structure down all the easier.

And don't use google. Or VoIP. This is just desensitization so people won't mind more pervasive monitoring.

What these scumbags neglect to mention is that the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act which pertains to the telephony system requires a court order to install the backdoor (tap) on their victims' phone lines, whereas now they're trying to squeak legislation through to make it appear as if they simply want to twin the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act for their Internet victims, but conveniently fail to bring up the fact that this new legislation does not require court orders to spy on ordinary citizens. This makes the new legislation nothing like the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act, although they are attempting to ride the irrelevant similarity for everything they can get out of it. Just a bunch of pathetic, bumbling criminals doing what they do best... lying, conniving, weaseling and misrepresenting the truth.

But what if some of that information is merely misinformation?

I really wonder how the plan to sort this stuff out between relative and non relative. Especially with this new database they're building.

On a side note has anyone seen the show Person of Interest? This kind of reminds me of the machine they have.

Right now a revolution wouldn't have much support. But as the government kicks its own ass at making it look like the bunch of corporate-owned tyrants it is, people will get angry and (hopefully) take up arms against the corporate overlords.

Another thing they fail to mention is that many major Internet companies have ALREADY provided them full access to customer data without warrants. They ALREADY are able to spy on law-abiding citizens, gather and file their personal information, log their associates, document their family members, and glean all kinds of useful information... all without a legal basis whatsoever.

Wont it be a little suspect if your one of the only people without faceboo? Sorta makes you look like your hiding from something, I think having a normal looking face book could be quite advantages

This is bullshit.

I don't believe this is true at all.

The FBI wouldn't publicise this for various reasons such as causing mass hysteria.

Also, heard of Echelon?

Allies of America can, without breaking the laws of their own countries, spy on America. They can then pass this information on to the NSA.

And the NSA can decide if they are going to share that information with the FBI or not.

And no laws have been broken nor has new legislation been needed.

The only reason I can see the FBI wanting to do this if both the CIA and NSA habitually tell them to fuck off.

Probably. I have faith though that if they do essentially destroy the freedom of the Western internet, people will simply move to a voluntary alternet, the technology necessary is already free and ubiquitous, and such a network could only be prevented by a fully totalitarian government.
