(WTHR) -- An Indiana policeman's dash cam captured the terrifying moments when a suspect opened fire on him Friday night.

The footage shows the suspect, 27-year-old James Lockhart III of Indianapolis, leading the officer, Matt Fox, on a chase, then shooting Fox in his police car.

Officers later cornered Lockhart in a Lawrence apartment complex, killing him with return fire after he shot at them.

Lockhart wounded an IMPD officer and a police dog in the shoot-out.

The video shows how Lockhart drove his car into a subdivision, and refused to get out as Fox ordered.

After about a minute of ignoring Fox, Lockhart takes off in his white Volvo.

Seconds later, the video shows Lockhart getting out of the car and shooting at Fox.

By the time Lockhart got to the police car, he had fired at least four times.

He then moved out of sight of Fox's dashboard camera and shot through the driver's side window at Fox.

Lockhart then runs back to his car and takes off again.

Fox was wearing a bullet proof vest that may have saved his life.

Fox was last listed in good condition at IU Health Methodist Hospital.

The IMPD officer and police K-9 are also expected to make full recoveries.

Edit: I burst into laughter when the cop was crying about how he was gonna die. Dude was being so dramatic like life is a movie or some shit. Cops are such pussies my one buddy was shot twice with a .308 and blown up with an IED at the same time, he kept fighing and didnt lie down bitching about how he was gonna die.
