Re: &Z, suggest me a book about drugs.
Last one I read was True Hallucinations by Terence McKenna, and it was very good. It's about his first journey into the Amazon as a young man in search of ayahuasca. It's biographical of course, but written like a novel. And yes they take plenty of drugs don't worry.
Shit like Naked Lunch is okay if you're trying to be a hipster I guess, but Burroughs was a rambling morphine addict not a literary genius, and almost everything in that book about drugs is either grossly misleading or just straight-up false. God help anyone who can relate to that fuck-up.

Yeah, I didn't really enjoy Naked Lunch, his book Junky was much better.

Naked Lunch is fucking genius, and what is it specifically grossly misleading or just straight-up false about it?

Fear and Loathing is the obvious one.
Carlos Castaneda's books are pretty interesting.
Breaking Open the Head... though the author came across as a bit of a douche to me.

I think that movie is one of the few adaption of a book that does it justice. I saw the movie before reading the book, and I was surprised at how closely they follow each other. It is well worth reading the book for HST's use of language though.

"Requiem for a Dream" and "Last Exit to Brooklyn". Both are by Hubert Selby Jr. - and, both of them have drugs as the main driving force behind the characters actions.
"Last Exit to Brooklyn" is a shocking, graphic read even now. I can only imagine how shocking it must have been when it came out in the 50's.

What do you mean? Did you read the book first and thought it was a poor adaptation? I agree completely with dude above me who said that it's one of the most well done book to film adaptations, hell they even had HST himself standing by throughout the filming process and he would pretty much cry foul on anything he felt was being done in a way that wasn't true to his original work with the book. Johnny Depp lived in HST's house for a time prior to shooting the movie just to study the guy's mannerisms, and if you ever watch pretty much any piece of documentary on HST himself you can immediately see what a great job Depp did at playing his character.
I honestly do want to know what you didn't like about it, I'm not criticizing your opinion, just curious because of how many people feel that it was a well-done adaptation.

Re: &Z, suggest me a book about drugs.
"Tweak" by Nic Sheff is s relatively easy read - and, an interesting account/biopic of an addict. He was a pretty wacky kid.

Re: &Z, suggest me a book about drugs.
The Long Hard Road out of Hell, Marilyn Manson biography. Rife with drug use.
Heavier than Heaven - Nirvana/Kurt Cobain biography. Lots and lots of drug use.
any Jim Morrison biography.
Anything literally ABOUT drugs as the main focus of the plot is going to be a sloppy shit of a novel, with people blowing up their favorite drug into the end-all be-all of human experience. Or the exact opposite i.e. - Requiem for a Dream

Re: &Z, suggest me a book about drugs.
Well, some of the books are about drugs in the non fictional sense. The Pharmako series by Dale Pendell for example is a cross between a journal and an encyclopedia exclusively about drugs, and it is well worth reading.
