I wish the writers in the gaming industry would take inspiration from Killer7
I know I already mentioned Killer7 about a kajillion times already, but I feel the need to rant.
I just see too many games that follow a formula. Granted there are differences, but how many games have you played where...
The main characters have some family ties with the main boss.
Evil wants to take over the world
You must collect X amount of shit to be victorius
Cheesy dialog (at times anyway)
Saving a princess
And some more bullshit
Look at what the fuck is going on in Killer7. While the graphics and gameplay style are very unique, the most epic part of the whole game is the story. I give the guys props for going all the way out of left field for it. Who the hell thought this up? I mean its not like they got the idea from some other game, because no other game is remotly similar to the story line.
But thats what makes Killer7 epic. The writers were bold and wern't afraid to break away from the mold. The game has alot of symbolisim and it can be interpreted differently. Its a kind of story that will hook your interest even though the whole time you're thinking "What... the... Fuck?" I've beatin the game several times and Im still thinking about what the hell is going on. Its definatly something you wont get, but thats what keeps it interesting and gives Killer7 a lasting appeal. Its the one game story I will NEVER forget.
So why are there not more games like this? I have yet to see a game that takes that kind of risk from a writers perspective. Come on you fucks, get creative.
Ok Im done ranting. In closing, here is some Killer7 epicness...
This sums it up... kinna
If you havent played this game yet, fuckin play it already

From the 60 second synopsis it appears to be entirely nonsensical garbage thrown together in no particular order with copious amounts of violence. In short, there is nothing to "get" and you're delusional for trying to read into it.

Wasn't Killer 7 an on-rails shooter? What is this, 1996?

Unfortunately it looks like only the japanese are able to create unique, unforgettable, innovative games with breaktrough story and gameplay.
Catherine for PS3 is another one amazing japanese videogame

Yes it is an on rails shooter. Normally, I would think a fixed path would be kind of dull, but it doesn't feel that way at all. If anything, the on rails work great. The camera shots in the game are cinematic at times and you never have a camera issue. But thats changing the subject. Im speaking specifically about the games story, not the game mechanics. Also, this is 2012, not 1996. Buy a more recent calendar.

I watched the first video you linked and it's completely cheesy dialogue, like Time Crisis quality.
What does Killer 7 do better than a game like say, Half Life 2 in terms of cinematic storytelling?

Time Crisis is great, but it clearly doesn't have good dialogue or story.

Thats not what I meant exactly by cheesy dialouge. When the characters speak in most games, it is portrayed in such a way that feels tacked on. The way alot of dialouge is presented doesnt sound realistic, because the game wants the player to know whats going on all the time. Its like the writers think all gamers are idiots with a 4.6 second attention span. Its almost like they sacrifice story for keeping the gamer informed on the details.
Killer7 doesnt fill you in on much of anything and thats what is fuckin great about it. When you are fighting the enimies, the game doesnt dumb it down to explain why you are doing it. You dont know if these are good or bad guys, you dont know where they are from, you dont know what they want, you dont know what their agenda is. As the game continues, you meet new characters. When you have dialouge with them, what they are talking about isnt obvious like in most games.
I havent played Half-Life 2, but the first one had a great storyline. The Metal Gear solids have great stories as well (the PS1 MGS was the best). However, these games dont have much in interpret. The game does a great job of making the story go above and beyond in the realms of gaming. Killer7 does the total opposite. There is a story, but its not in black and white.
I would highly suggest you play the game if you havent. Its a story that is cant possilby be described like most games. However, if you want (alot of) spoilers.... well not spoilers, but an in depth analysis.

I remember hearing about this game awhile ago. I havent played it, but it seems like a game I wouldnt mind playing. From what I've seen, Im liking the puzzle element. I got it on my "Shit to get list" now, so I'll look into it soon.
But going back to Killer7...
Here are a couple of reviews of the game if anyone is skeptical. Perhaps they can explain (or at least try to) the plot line better than I....

When it comes to Japanese datingsims, there are much cooler games out there. Hatoful Boyfriend seems awesome.
