Yea, I'm gunna guess judging from OP's post this is just another common case of pet neglect. See what usually happens to the family dog, is that its luster of cuteness begins to wearoff somehwhere around 1 yr. After that, the distancing process begins because the owners come to learn what a pain in the ass having such an entity roam ur house is. It tracks dirt, shits/pisses, barks, needs to be fed, begs for attention etc. tldr it ends up in the backyard banished from the inside.
