But the music playing in Gatsby's party in the trailer is fucking Jay Z and dubstep and shit. It's like the worst fucking... oh god.

And the worst part is, nobody even gives a shit. The trailer has mostly thumbs up, I thought it'd be a Jack and Jill deal. People are standing for this.

As for why you would "hate" Art after hearing your teacher make an apt point is probably why you hate all things intellectual, because you find them "pretentious" and/or boring. Yes, a good Friedrich Nietzsche quote; who I agree with for the most part, but don't confuse "deepness" with implying that you cannot make a thoughtful contribution to the dialogue of a piece of art, a movie, a poem, or whatever...I tend to attribute being "deep" as meaning that people can can actually understand the point that I'm attempting to make. It's not to be taken as a pseudo-intellectual pursuit (as Nietzsche puts it), but rather as something that I strive to understand myself.

Just because you want to show the crowd how "deep" the water is does not make someone illegitimate, it just makes you someone that wants to add "clarity." Likewise, if you are someone that merely shows them a "drop" of the water and appear as a genuine/true person, than if they jump in, couldn't they drown?

Moreover, trying to being neither "right" nor "wrong" (being neutral without a deep thought) is a good way to live your life if you prefer being pushed around; good luck trying to get up that hill on your own with that basis for a philosophy. Take scientists, for instance, who strive for clarity, but are outcast for giving the truth about how the world works...I say, let them explain to me how deep the water is and let those who don't want to know live their lives in ignorance...
