Not 100% sure what you mean by wilds. Drying meat can take a long time, and require some sort of shelter. It all depends on the climate too. I know the mongols are supposed to have preserved meat by putting it under their saddles, to soak up salt from the horse's sweat. Look up pickleing too, immersing meat or fish in vinegar is a lot easier than trying to dry it out, shooing away flies.
