Default Some projects

It figures...I finally get modded, and the forum goes dead. I guess it's up to me to liven things up a bit by showing off some of my recent projects.

Here's my chicken coop. It's fully enclosed with chicken wire to prevent the chickens from making a mess of the yard. The frame was built with cedar, treated plywood, and stainless steel screws. The wheels allow me to easily move it around the yard, so it doesn't kill the grass. It also means I don't need to do much cleaning, since the droppings are spread out.

The chicken wire extends to the bottom as well, keeping out predators who might dig. I also put a nice big tree branch in for them to perch on. It currently houses six happy hens.

This is a vase I made during a wood turning class. It's made out of spalted maple. I haven't picked out a finish yet.

I made this cutting board out of maple and purpleheart, all end grain. I finished it with mineral oil. Bonus points to whomever can guess what it's supposed to be.

Who doesn't love monoliths? I made this genuine TMA-1 scale model replica action figure out of a piece of granite tile. Alright, so it doesn't absorb all electromagnetic radiation subjected to it, but it's the closest I can get on my budget.

Lastly, here is my desk at work. They only have puny 17" monitors, but they told me I could use as many as I wanted. So, I'm using six. Three separate computers drive two monitors each, but they're all connected with Synergy, which allows me to control all of them with a single keyboard and mouse, as if it were one giant desktop.

The left two monitors are on a windows computer until I figure out how to get the MS exchange email server working under a real OS, and the other four are running Linux Mint with the MATE desktop manager. (None of this Unity or Gnome 3 garbage for me.)

------------------

Well, hopefully this will generate a bit more activity. What does everyone think?

Why do you have chickens is what I'm wondering.

Because they're adorable, and will soon lay very tasty eggs.

Nope. The cutting board is not related to the lego people. But I like the idea.

Also, I've just created an electric chicken feeder. By hanging a light in the middle of the cage, it attracts all kinds of bugs, which the chickens greedily devour. I don't know how they'll react to staying up all night, but they're certain to lay wonderful eggs because of their high protein diet.

I'm seriously digging your monitor set-up. I've wanted a rig like that for a while.

Where do you work, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks. It's incredibly useful when you have dozens of console windows you need to work with. I do IT at a media company.

I bet. That sounds nice. I do engineering stuff, it'd be incredibly epic to have AutoDesk up on three monitors or so, and then have another one running Matlab and another with reference material/porn pulled up. I could work all day like that.

I <3 Space Odyssey.

Also, epic monitor setup. Never seen anyone with more monitors than I use (2x2 cube of 4 CRTs).
