Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike
It's probably the greatest beat-em up ever.
What do you guys think??

Re: Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike
In the competitive scene, it definitely is. I used to know some asian dudes that played that shit religiously. The game is half the reason the Dreamcast is still a live console today.

Re: Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike
I bought a Dreamcast just to play 3rd strike. I have it on xbox too as part of the anniversary collection but I prefer to play it on my dreamcast.

Re: Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike
To me it's a toss up between SFA3 and SF3 3rd Strike. I like all the classic characters and the ability to use any super combo you like in Alpha 3; but I hate having to use two punches for throwing. It's awkward to use. SF3 definitely has better play mechanics, and it's nice having some different opponents to fight. I wound up downloading an DC iso of SFA3 recently and am finding it way easier than the last time I played that version, I would ragequit because sometimes the triggers clearly wouldn't respond to my inputs. I've got the PS2 version of Anniversary with 3rd Strike, and can honestly say Gill is easily the tougher boss.

Re: Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike
3rd Strike is definitely the fighter I've put the most hours into. probably like over 500. it and Guilty Gear XX are my favorite all-time fighters.
do any of you play the online edition?

Okay first of all, you're not in the military so there's no need to say bullshit phrases like "40 clicks".
Anyway, now that we've got that out of the way... you're abso-fucking-lutely correct. It's definitely a tie between Street Fighter Apha (Zero) 3 and Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike. The thing is however, that Street Fighter Zero 3 was king on the arcades, whereas the power of the Dreamcast made Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike possible at home. Of course, the CPS2 emulator also enabled motherfuckers like us to emulate the arcade feel at home, provided we had the correct input hardware.
But you're definitely right. Street Fighter Alpha (Zero) 3 and Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike are THE best and pivotal beat 'em ups in the history of competitive fighting games. There never will be a game like either of those. What a great way to conclude the 90s.
I'm a bit drunk now and sentimental, but you get my drift.

Also, those dickheads at Capcom sure know how to make up shitty names for their games.

I play it on GGPO from time to time. Too bad I blow at the game. I wish I was a bit better to to put up a fight or something.

Military in it's origin or not (I don't know) "clicks" is pretty common slang used for kilometers in a lot of places that use the metric system. It's next to impossible to get directions, or an estimate on distance, from anyone around here without it involving the word "clicks"...
Back to the topic though, I've never played 3rd Strike, but Alpha 3 sucked many many hours away from me in highschool. It was definitely one of the best fighters I ever played. So if 3rd is on par with, or beyond A3, I'm sure it was fucking incredible.

Never played the online edition as I don't own a PS3 or 360.
Forgot how good Alpha 3 is. Had it on the PSP but never had chance to play it that much. I've just downloaded the CPS2 rom of it so I can have a proper play.
Jo0 what's GGPO like?? Is it better than Supercade or the same??

Why not, compared to the other games? The gameplay is largely the same as other SFs, and the DC has a huge amount of modes and options for both single and versus play. Alpha 3 also has something called "Dramatic Battle" which means 2 on 1 battles. They can get quite frenetic. Overall it's a better game for when you don't have someone to play against, and it has the best roster of the traditional characters. It's better than SF4!

I got pretty into it, but the only character that appealed to me was Q.

Re: Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike
SF3:3S is such a beautiful game. The way it hit-confirms and everything is wonderful. It was also extraordinarily pretty for a 2d fighter in it's time.
I like to roll Q and triple taunt, then make newbs cry when I invulnerability frame through there bullshit combos, or just parry that shit like a boss. Those were the days.

Re: Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike
Damn that was such a fun time of my youth. Sleep all day, eat E all night, throw parties, get together with friends & bitches, Dreamcasts, Sony TVs, SL-1200s, house music and lots of neon. That entire part of my memory conists of a hazy neon vision.
