So you don't even smoke a pack a day? Tough it out pussy. Or just ween yourself down with actual cigarettes. Nicotine patches help with nicotine cravings, but you relapse/whatever for more than one reason. It's not the nicotine that makes cigs hard to quit, its the ritual around smoking. The very specific movements you go through to smoke a cigarette are now ingrained in your mind. It's a habit, and you will feel loss without them regardless of if you have your nicotine fix or not.

I dont know about patches, but I got some gum from Walgreens when I quit chewing and it was like $20 for the generic stuff...I think generic patches would be about the same

On their own not very effective at all. I smoke about 20 roll ups a day (so probably less than you considering straights are stronger) and using the strongest patch they do just about takes the edge off.

My Dad's trying to quit at the moment and the NHS deal over here is nicotine patches and a nicotine inhaler. It's working for him, patches help with general nicotine addiction and the inhaler for when you really get a craving, helps with the psychological and physical effects. You could use those e-cigs too but can't help but feeling that just reinforces wanting an actual cigarette.

So yeah, if you really want to quit I'd recommend that. The inhalers are really good for giving you something to do with your hands when you really feel like a cigarette.

What that first reply said. I dip a can a day, it's not the nicotine itself, it's the act of doing it that makes it hard to give up.

Marlboro's are fucking garbage.

Fuck buying patches, just cut down on smokes. Slowly taper off until you've finally quit. Patches are expensive and you don't just miss the nicotine, you'll also miss the taste, smell and oral fixation of cigarettes. Never underestimate the power of a psychological addiction.

The main reason people fail to quit is because they feel like they're making a huge sacrifice when they stop. You have to genuinely want to stop for good.

Patches will only prolong the withdrawals. Just tough it for 3 days - I think I heard that past that point its all psychological. So op if you go through with this: WELCOME TO HELL.

Seriously, quitting was the most badass thing I ever did. Fuck the tobacco corporations.

Edit: I don't think tapering is gunna be super effective. You have to break down barriers (psychological triggers) and create new ones.
