How to get past this?

So i am having trouble getting past my front door. The door is unlocked but how can one get past this security without making to much noise and destroying the mechanism and door. One can fit like a finger or two past the opening but that's it.

If there's absolutely no other way i might have too, but then again it's a hardened chain so even that might prove difficult.

Just dont let the string go like the idiot in this video. Release it slowly to reduce noise, and you should be fine.

This might work, but the opening in the door might be a little too small for that to even get a string around the chain.

Since it's your front door, you should be able to get a gist of where the chain lock is.

Use a bent wire to maneuver the loop around the corner of the opening. Hook the loop onto the chain, and tighten. Then, proceed to follow the instruction in the above video.

Thanks for the tips, i will try some of these methods otherwise i will just have to snip it. Not my favorite option, since it's a $60 chain..

Yes but that might be tricky, since the door can only open two fingers wide which makes it nearly impossible to do it. I am thinking of bending a wire or something, allowing me to push the chain of the slide when i close the door.

I would snip it or bust the door open with force. Those things really aren't good security wise.

I understand that would be the easiest solution, but it is my own door plus it's a $60 door chain i would rather not destroy.

I'm curious; how would you pop open a similarly locked- or even dead bolted- door? It would require extreme force or equipment and it is not anywhere as easy as one would make it sound by a long shot.

Bashing the door with force isn't an option really, in the end i might be needing to snip it, but until then i'm hoping for other solutions. Maybe someone built some sort of construction that goes either under the door or is bent in a certain way that gets behind the door.

I'm afraid coat hangers and the elastic band trick will not work.. The opening is just big enough for a couple fingers. I will probably have to snip it.

Any good tool suggestions?

Some decent wire cutters should do the trick, it'll probably be a bitch to cut though.

Yes it is hardened steel i believe. So i'm not sure what i would need to be honest.

Coat hanger needs less then a 2 finger space, pre bend it so u contorl it from the out side but it bends to hit the lock on the inside, very easy as I done it many times.

It does not work i have tried it, the door cannot close far enough to make it unlatch.

Again, like i said: a coat hanger or wire does not work since the door cannot close/open far enough to make it unlatch. Now i'm looking for a way to snip it, what's a good tool to cut steel?
