Stealing from WalMart with a receipt

So my friend has to make a video for class on how to save money and had this idea. The character goes into WalMart, buys whatever they want, then leaves. Then later they go back in and take the same thing and walk out with it, having the receipt just in case they got stopped. Then return one of the items, and they got the other one free. They also know how to disable spider wraps and other security devices. Hypothetically, would this work in real life?

Those pesky door greeters are at the door for a reason.. to mark your reciept with that shitty highlighter, indicating you left the store with your goods. As long as they dont mark it, then you can say you didn't leave the store already with it.

i'm pretty sure most walmarts are beginning to do away with greeters. Thats the word I've heard

Sounds like someone could get away with this. But when returning one of the items would it have to be the original one that was payed for or will they be able to tell the difference? Like do they check the bar code or something to make sure it was bought before?

Holy fuck, you need to not steal anything if you know this little about the retail store biz.

But the truth is, as long it isn't some fuking computer or something that has to have the serial number inputted for warranty/legal (think guns) reason, then a bar code is just a way for the store to know what brand/model they are ringing up. The UPC is the same for every item on the shelf.

Yes, this will work, kinda. Keep in mind LP's job is to watch for dumb kids that look like they're doing something wrong. Also, remember receipts are time stamped. IMHO you're better off scanning the parking lot for receipts that were paid w/ cash, then going into the store, grabbing the item. Then going to the desk and returning it.

CASH=No trail. If you do this with a credit card with your name, keep in mind they'll have your info, man. So big ticket items COULD come back and bite you in the ass........

Yeah, I've done everything in cash so far. And if I can't afford using cash, I'll stay away from that item.

When I get the receipt I cut off the part with the time and date since I'll be coming back later. When I went to returned some items today all the lady said was 'this receipt is almost gone.' So I guess I don't need to worry about that.

And what you said about electronics having the serial number put in, would that apply to things like subwoofers and car speakers, or just the main electronics? I know subwoofers have a bigger tag with a lot more numbers than most things but I don't know what that means.

UNDFTD, I personally wouldn't go too much over $100 but I'm nOt sure what most people would say.

Wanted to know something that might work? If they ask to see the receipt then just instead say you didn't buy the item here. So it casually and cooly and don't break your stride. Keep walking.

Lately there haven't been greeters at either of the 2 walmarts in my town, but just in case someone asks, I cut off the part with the date and it still looks normal.

What a friend has done in the past is find something you want to return to WalMart (or any store for that matter). Then go in to the store and steal what you want, and set it in your cart. Then go return the other item and claim you already bought what's in your cart. Has worked every time so far with no questions.

I worked at circuit city and best buy in the car audio section. Both as an installer and a manager, in my younger years. I can tell you that unless warranty is purchased, they do not input the serial number.

Almost always when they input the serial number, the receipt will show it when printed, on a line under the line item line.

If you try and do a swap and they inputted the serial number, and you get caught (Unlikely if you don't have the BESTBUY or WALMART or INSERT STORE HERE specialty extended warranty on the product) just tell them you have a couple different sets of the same speakers and wasn't sure which set was bought there, as you bought the other set online or somewhere else.

They'll put your shit back in the box and send you home "to get the right one"

At least you don't get busted.

The greeters are either gone or useless at most Walmart's.

Even today I walked out with something in hand ( I actually had already paid for it ) he said "Hey" and I walked over to him thinking he was going to ask for a receipt and he said "You look... a little batty.. *snicker*" he than proceeded to point at my batman symbol shirt... so yeah, they're all completely incompetent.
