Did you work full-time in college?
How many hrs/week did you work and how would you say it affected your ability to focus on studies?

Re: Did you work full-time in college?
I've worked full time throughout my whole college education. These last 4 years at a more professional job. I prefer working, so I focused more on that than school.
I've been going to school for 6 years or so. I've been part time the last 4 or 5 years... can't remember anymore. I only have 2 classes left, I would've finished them this summer, but one course is required for my degree and it isn't offered until next summer.
If you can get away without working and you really want to have the college experience and get involved at school, don't try and work full-time.
Of course, if I didn't work full-time for the past 4 years, I'd graduate and be unemployed with a ton of debt.
Edit: Gotta add, by full-time, I mean 40 hours per week.

Re: Did you work full-time in college?
Fuck no I haven't been. During the semesters I work one or two days a month at a catering gig and walk away with a couple hundred for a single night's work. I work a lot now over the summer, usually over 40 hours a week for the same company but I do a lot more than just cooking and serving at the events. Organic farming, cooking for the home delivery orders, and the days there are catering events in the summer usually last about 12 hours from start to finish.
I get roughly 5 grand back from the school after my scholarships and Pell grants clear through because my school is cheap and I got kicked off campus after my freshman year.

Re: Did you work full-time in college?
I think it would be extremely difficult to work full time and be going to school full time as well. I don't even know how you would work out your class schedule if you have to work 8 hours a day. That just sounds fucking grueling. Working full time while taking a few classes sounds alright tho. Obviously it would take you longer to graduate as optionryder said, but I imagine it'd be much easier to pay for it, which would be a major plus.

I've been taking around 13 hours per semester and working a little over 20 per week. I'm a bus driver for my uni's transit system.

If you work evening hours it isn't as hard as it sounds.
I worked full time for a while during high school. I had class from 8 to 3, then waited tables from 4 to about midnight or after. It definitely sucked, but high school is easy as fuck anyways. I also made a shit ton of money, of which I am still using for expenses in college.
I work occasionally on Textbroker and also doing project-based work, basically whenever I need cash. I've been able to avoid any serious time consuming jobs as a result.
This summer I'm taking classes nonstop, which should get me about a semester ahead. Next summer I'll be going for an internship. With my job history and research experience that should be doable and should also make around $5K-$9K depending where I end up.

Re: Did you work full-time in college?
I pretty consistently took 15 hours of classes and worked 15 hours a week during the last 3 years of college (graduated in 4). I'd usuallt try to work more and save up in the summers but also did the unpaid intern thing a few times.

Re: Did you work full-time in college?
It's hard but it depends what job and ur classes are. I can work more when I have online claseses but when there at the school I can't. I try not to work as much but I still get hours to cover my shit

Re: Did you work full-time in college?
Yeah I was taking 14 credit hours and working 35 hours a week.
The classes were pretty low-level, but the job hours were aweful; mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends - schedule varied but typically included all of these mixed up and almost always included Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I never had time to relax and I felt like complete shit

Na, $5K-$9K per month is more what I would make after graduating. For an internship, it would be that amount over about three months.

Re: Did you work full-time in college?
Yup...full time college and work. Only reason I made it was that my job was cake and paid well.

Re: Did you work full-time in college?
In uni no, full time would have been impossible with my lab/lectures schedule. Worked part time in a bar though, flexible so I could get shifts when I had time. Only did a year though.
When I was in college I did work most nights in a pub.

Re: Did you work full-time in college?
Up until I graduated, I was working 25-30 hour weeks with at least 12 units. I focused too much on work and not enough in school, so my GPA pretty much sucked. Luckily I spent my working time making contacts and getting letters of recommendation and I ended up getting a decent job. I think for graduate school I'll just take one class a semester while I keep my current job.

Re: Did you work full-time in college?
At the moment, I'm doing 40 units per year and working 20-30 hours per week (at $21/h, don't really need to do much more) and managing to hold a 90% average. Next year I'll be doing 80-100 units a year, so will probably cut the hours back. So long as a do some work, I can pretty safely rely on the government to help with the rest.
Also, don't buy text books and that other crap, don't print stuff unless 100% needed, and don't buy food on campus. Makes living cheap a hell of a lot easier.

Re: Did you work full-time in college?
I'm a full time student and normally work between 25 and 35 hours a week.
So only part time work, which is decent because it generally makes time off easier if I need it.
