The best villain-alien in Star Trek
Pretty much every episode has an encounter with an alien whos antagonism or cultural differences with the Earthmen generally drives the plot. My favourite was the Gorn from TOS, although Troi's baby was also pretty cool?
The Gorn

Re: The best villain-alien in Star Trek
My favorite was the creature with the suckers on its hands and the big sucker mouth it had, where it would latch onto your face and upper body and suck every molecule of salt out of your body, leaving tell-tale purple rings behind where the suckers had drawn out all your salt.

Re: The best villain-alien in Star Trek
Another wicked creature was the Horta, which was intelligent and intent on guarding its young. It would rear up on its hindquarters and fall on top of one of the lesser-known crew (usually a red shirt from security), all the while secreting copious amounts of a highly potent acid which dissolved the hapless person away to a wisp of smoke in a matter of just seconds. It could bore right through solid rock at the speed of a cat, and it also withstood a direct hit from a phaser set to destroy.
Then there was the giant "horn creature" which could swallow entire planets and moons by emitting a powerful laser from its maw, breaking the planets up with all the people still on them, devouring the remains to convert to fuel. Larger than 10,000 constitution-class starships, its outer hull was impervious to phaser and photon torpedo fire, and it could also travel in excess of warp speed 9.9.

Tholians. Would have loved to see more of them in any series. The Gorn for that matter too.

The Borg, definitely.
Or the Ferengi, just because they're so goddamn despicable.

The Crystalline Entity (from the episode "Datalore")
It's a giant crystalline tower of destruction that is never really explained. Awesome.
or
Nagilum (from the episode "Where Silence Has Lease)
Some strange, nearly omnipotent alien being the crew of the Enterprise encounter during their travels.

Re: The best villain-alien in Star Trek
The evil entity "Armus" who killed Lt. Tasha Yar with a psychokinetic blast. This "sludge creature" could also assume the form of victims it pulled into its mud-pool. It also had telekinetic powers. The creature tells its own story of how it came to be born: a physical manifestation of evil from the bodies of an ancient race which had destroyed/eradicated itself from the planet, leaving the entity behind as the only surviving remnant of that wicked civilization.

I used to be scared of that when I was younger (about 10) and into Star Trek.

Yeah, I came here thinking armus.
And of course, the borg (minus the borg queen).

I was going to say The Crystaline Entity, but even the show's creators thought it was fucking ridiculous. In 4x03 "Brothers", Dr. Noonian Soong refers to it as a "giant snowflake". Which is exactly what it is. It's about as menacing as the giant space jellyfish from 1x01/1x02 "Encounter at Farpoint".
Nagilum is also hardly a villain. He let the crew go relatively unscathed. IIRC he was just using them as lab rats. Studying them.
EDIT: On the topic of villains though - Data's brother Lore. The Crystalline Entity itself isn't all that villainous; Lore on the other hand practically fed the entire colony to the monster. The Entity itself was just hungry, Lore was the true villain in that episode.

Re: The best villain-alien in Star Trek
Then there was the Dikironium Cloud Creature which could invade easily the ship's shields and suck the white corpuscles out of the blood of every human on the ship within seconds, leaving the entire crew frozen in death with screaming rictuses on their shocked faces. It was also impervious to phaser fire. Pretty cool.

If I hadn't though Armus was Gorn I would have said Armus originally. Perhaps the most intriguing alien from Star Trek, IMO. So much is unexplained about him. Who were the race of "titans" he refers to?

I thought of the Horta too, but I would not judge it to be wicked.

That's wrong.
They weren't an evil civilisation, they shed their evil aspects when they left the planet, and the sum of all the evil they previously held within them became Armus.

He's... a curious, trickster God. He can do literally anything with the snap of a finger. Fuck... he doesn't even need to snap a finger. He has more control over the universe than you do an arm or a leg. If he truly had any villainous intent, he could make it so. He could literally make the human race disappear.
I could totally understand calling him a villain, but I don't know. He certainly fulfills the role from episode to episode, but he's not evil. He's just a cocky dick. If you were immortal and omnipotent you'd get pretty bored, and he finds humanity intriguing. Especially Picard, who he tests frequently. He only means to challenge and expand the crew's puny human minds though. He does the right things, the wrong way. I think the worst he's done is indiricetly getting 17 crew members killed by sending the Enterprise up against a Borg cube.
PS: I'm not autistic, I know it's 17 crew members because I've just been watching entirely too much TNG the last couple of days. I'm already on season 4.

He's not a dictionary definition bad guy either, but Jeffrey Combs is fucking boss and a badass in general, so he deserves mention.

Re: The best villain-alien in Star Trek
Another good one was the Neural Parasites from the original series. Not only could they fly in swarms (flocks), when they detected you in flight they would immediately latch onto your face, back or chest and absorb themselves into your body. Once absorbed, they would take control of your nervous system and brain and intentionally cause excruciating pain, driving you insane to the point of death. Highly illogical, as Spock pointed out, but a truly evil alien creature as far as Star Trek creatures go. There was even a spin-off to the creature later on, although this one was about the size of a crayfish, which would crawl along your body until it reached your ear, whereupon it would enter the ear canal and munch through to your brain where it finally takes control of your brain and bodily functions (Khan uses it on Chekov).

The starwars/startrek trolling works best on the people who didn't invent it. Which in other words makes it useless on zoklet.

yeah guys, have some discretion with your usage of internet culture.
it's as if you were just like "shit, perfect place for this meme right here" and just went ahead and did it, despite it not being effective or funny in the slightest.

Kind of a general answer all for the people talking about this and wondering about the race that created him. Armus seems to be referring to a TOS race that setup Kirk against the Gorn captain in "The Arena" called the Metrons.
But it's just a theory with (limited) facts that seem to fit the puzzle pieces.

Yeah in All Good Things which btw is my favorite episode, he turns out all right.
Was it not for him, picard would apparently have destroyed all of mankind.
