This is true. I knew a handful of people growing up whose parents were Bear Stearns types. Some of them lived in gated communities, million dollar houses, that kind of thing (but it was San Francisco, and the housing bubble was in full effect) but they looked like what you described. No Lambos or top hats, just enough luxury to be comfortable and the rest was probably in sound investments, rather than spent on flashy shit. Hence why they were rich.

Bragging about money and crazy spending on things that everyone thinks rich people have is for poor people who come across wealth suddenly, like rappers and athletes, and it's the reason so many of them go bankrupt.
