Do these things degrade? That may seem like a stupid question, but it hasn't gotten wet, dropped, or hit and it doesn't receive that well any more. Which is kind of a problem. I have updated driver, swapped cable and swept machine. Performance has gone from quite nice to execrable. It's like 6 months old, any help appreciated.

Random FYI, that card runs a chipset along the lines of the *3070, therefore is not as good as the oldschool Alfa AWUS036H for wireless cracking/packet sniffing.

If it helps you, my AWUS036H is just as potent as it was 3 years ago when I bought it.

Thanks man, there was in fact a dropper running that I failed to catch. Removed and I don't know if it's (Alpha) OK or if I will need to build something down the road. Running on Asus laptop with Atheros card which is surprisingly weak.

I've read that the AWUS036H's reported power is inaccurate and that the difference between it and the NH isn't that great. Also, a lot of the kinks have been worked out. Problems when it first came out are what's driving a lot of its bad reputation.

Considering that Reaver can crack some WPA, I'd say it's worth getting something that can handle N better. Using Comcast right now. Internet stolen is sweeter than internet paid for.

Will reaver work w/win7?... had issues with running ubuntu in vmware (locks, freezing) had to dump it though I know win kinda sucks for packet sniffing. Forget it dude I just saw it mebbe debian will work better than ubuntu:

It was the antenna, think like 7db, junked and got a shorty off wireless card for laptop and got better performance. Was sorta wondering in terms of penetration testing (backtrack etc) iand give higher gain if CB antenna could be modded w/Alpha and give higher gain. Cannot get info if too much gain will trip out wifi chipset. Any ideas?....STD maybe?

I have read that extreme gain can damage consumer end wi-fi hardware (or was that amplification?). What I read wasn't backed with anything, though.
