Your Favorite EDC Knife

It doesn't have to be expensive or be from any of the "popular" companies (ie Benchmade, Emerson, Kershaw, etc.), just what you like to carry the most. It could be for its value, its design or its quality. Feel free to explain what you use it for, what you like about, how much it cost and how you carry it.

I have a lot of folding knives I've EDC'd over the years and a lot that I have grown attached to, but honestly the one that I can say was the best value and the most reliable was my Winchester Cypher. The thing only cost ~$40 at a gun store I used to go to but let me tell you, it has stood up to some serious abuse. I have used this thing to gut fish, cut rope, cut cardboard every day for years, outdoors, etc. The titanium coated stainless is rust free at all times, the lock up is absolutely solid, the blade geometry is nice and the price is reasonable. The skeletal frame is a nice touch. I find it to be a nice modest size but with huge capabilities.

I haven't EDC'd in ages but I'm going to get myself a Leatherman Charge AL at some point, heard good things about it.
I did carry a generic folder that my father gave me, it was a great little thing nonetheless.

My favorite EDC knife is the Kershaw Spec Bump. It's a good deal for what you're getting: S30V blade, G10 scales, thumbstud lock, and a strong A/O action with a flipper. The Kershaw Leek is also a good choice for smaller hands and budgets... for lighter duties. I have big hands and I tend to be rough on my EDC knives so both the Spec Bump and my SOG Vulcan work great for what I need. Although I do prefer assisted opening knives for EDC, they're just easier and quicker to deploy. That, and Kershaw's build quality and materials are superior to SOG's (in their folders at least) IMO.

spyderco resilience. Ive grown to love spydercos over the past 12 months, and this is my preferred edc. The 8Cr13MoV blade is far from the best, but it is more than adequate. I do like the thumb ramp and the big blade, and at $40 its ok if it gets lost. Mine's been modded with a zip tie to get the poor man's wave feature.

Ive also got a leatherman blast on me as well, but the blade is never used

SOG Flash II

I'm not a big knife guy, so I dont know every detail about it. I like it though. Its nice to use, the assisted open is pretty smooth and the locking mechanism is better than most (its easier to close w/ one hand than most knives I've used). I think I paid about $60 for it from Cabelas.

When I bought this knife I was upgrading from a Walmart Gerber, so I thought it was 10x better than my old knife. I've only have 2 nice knives: this one, and a Spydero Delica (like 10 years old)

its pretty good. kind of pricey for what it is, but has what most people want in a knife. I personally like this one over the Flash 1. Not just because I like the bigger blades, but the finger grooves on the 1 is kind of small and uncomfortable. You probably dont have to worry, but try to get the 'new' variant. That is, the one where the lock release lever is nice and rounded. I developed quite a callus playing with the old one which has kind of a blockish, sharp unlocking lever.

I carry my Douk Douk every day, it's a folder with a spring lock back. Really quality knives they've been making them since the 20's and are more popular in France and Algeria but they're simple, they don't break and they hold an edge like a boss. Plus it's a $20 knife and I've had knives that cost twice as much and cant touch the douk douk in quality. I'd say they're on par with bucks for half the price.

Also consider Opinel knives if youre interested in super low budget non-stainless folders. The steel on opinels will have an upgrade in steel to 1095 from anonymous steel on the douk, and youll get a lock on it as opposed to the slipjoint. Of course, the opinel looks ugly as sin and not as compact but it is a better worker.

Ive got the attention-whoring 6 inch one. Its comically large in size, and yeah, i have EDC'd it on occasion but i stopped because my pockets didnt go 6 inches deep. Still, its a cool looking knife and I like the stiletto look. Im actually surprised other companies havent replicated the folded liner lock on it.

Steel on the Douk is anonymous carbon (RC 50-53) or 440 stainless so it works for me. (I have the carbon.) But I'll grab an Opinel sometime soon to give it a try, I really like good cheap knives I can beat up. I use and abuse the hell out of my knives so I can't justify destroying an expensive one by carrying it every day. Also, if anybody likes quality but cheap fixed blades Swedish Mora's are dirt cheap and they just work great. So anybody looking for a good cheap fixed blade Mora's are worth looking into for the $15 they cost. My mora fillet knife does wonders on trout and it only cost me $20.

Edit: You are so right about the slipjoint thing though, thats the only down side of the Douk. However the spring is pretty strong so it tends to stay put very well, but I'd trade it in for a locking Douk, if they made one, any day.

Don't know what EDC means, but generally if size doesn't matter I just hack and slash with the machete in the boot of my car, of pull out the XACTO knife with the sharpest blade possible and have some nice fast swipes towards the throat.

Where I live we are not allowed to EDC fixed or lockable blades, so I carry a no-name multi-tool that can use hex-bits. Here is what I never leave home without:



I have other items for EDC too (in bag) but they are not weapons related. Besides that I would never use a knife as a self-defense weapon and regard any blunt improvised weapon as a better choice. An ECD knife is a tool!

My buck is very light weight and is excellently balanced it's also sharp as fuck and i've had that one atleat for a couple of years. I got my cold steel from my buddy for my birthday and i have to say it's an amazing EDC knife. I usually just carry one of them in case i encounter a situation where i might need a good knife

It´s an older photo so I have a new wallet and a different multi-tool and phone besides a 1000 lumens black flashlight with a strike bezel. But yes I carry that on my person every day (i.e. wallet, tool, flashlight, phone and not on pic my keys (incl handcuff key)).
How is that "all that shit"?

That is much, much more than I leave the house with. I could never imagine carrying that much stuff in around. meh, I guess thats just me (I usually dont need rope or a saw when going grocery shopping).

Even when I carry my pistol + extra mag it doesnt feel like I'm carrying a lot because my pockets are pretty much empty except for wallet, keys, and phone (I dont know where you'd keep rope and a saw, unless you wear a fanny pack)

The rope (flag line / paracord) is just hanging down the inside of my pants or tugged in some pocket. Saw is flat and fits in my wallet.

I don't carry that much on my person but I keep a 36 hour bag in my car at all times, just in case. Which holds much more supplies than that. That way I can get home and get my property into lockdown should there ever be a SHTF situation.

I've been carrying this for the past few months mainly because I got it for free, it came with a cool flashlight and the glass breaker is good if I need to use it defensively and the seatbelt cutter is good in case I get in a wreck.

Since someone brought up stilettos, I found a really nice one on ebay for something like $15 shipped. Its an assist with a faux mother of pearl handle and a 1095 carbon steel blade. It doesn't come very sharp but with my stone and ceramic rods I am now able to shave with it, plus I spent a few weeks painstakingly polishing it by hand. It used to be plain flat steel, but now its a fucking mirror. If I get a chance I'll upload one of my pics.

Been EDCing this a few weeks in my boot. Solid little knife, comfortable to pack, etc. Edge could be better but does the job.



Got this new recently. It's very flat, very sharp, the A/O is pretty decent and snappy but a bit stiff to close. The scales are a little light for my taste, compared to the blade, resulting in a minor balance issue but overall I'm fairly satisfied. Probably won't carry it forever but it's good for now.



My beloved, go-to, rough-and-ready Black Bear Claasic that I've used, abused and above all cherished for 11 years now.

Anybody have any opinions on the cheaper Kershaw knives?

I have handled the Skyline, but havent used it hard. Overall, the foreign made Kershaws are pretty good. The Skyline is popular, and for good reason, and for most people, it's more than adequate. Ive heard the 13C26 steels they use is ok, and similar in edge holding to something like AUS8, which is fine if youre not going to be cutting plastic, cardboard and rope all day.

My EDC knife now is a Mini-Buck folder.
