Whether or not they're a good idea depends on your transportation needs. I kinda know a guy who works at a gas station about half a mile from his house. Sure, he could commute by walking, but he also seems like a lazy ass, and to be fair he's pretty old, possibly disabled somehow... so he has a moped.

I also met a guy who was a big rig owner operator, and kept a moped tied to the back of his tractor. As a guy who was on the road weeks at a time and who followed DOT hours of service regulations, he used it to park his truck somewhere and go get food, see a movie, hit the casino, or whatever else.

Some universitys allow mopeds to roam around their campuses as well, where no motorcycle, much less car, can travel.

I can also imagine that they would be kinda fun to fuck around on.

There are a few cases where a moped makes sense, but they certainly aren't for everyone.

As for an investment, they make a great vehicle to get the hell outta town in case of disaster, though a sport/dirt/full bike will the same better

never owned one. when i was about 15 me and some mates stole one from the local train station. it wasn't locked or anything and i found a fiver in the coat that was left in the hatch. we hotwired it down a nearby alley and it was the first time i ever rid one. it was the first time i'd ever used an automatic gear bike of any sort to be honest, so having only riden proper bikes with gears i got on it and just twisted the handle and zoom, i immediately went into a wheelie and slipped off the back of the bike. my mates were pissing themselves at the sight of me running down behind this wheelying moped and me not letting go of the grip for about 5 seconds, running like mad trying to keep up with the fucking thing. lulzy times man, lol.

I have an aprilia rs50 and it looks pretty sexy, even if it does sound like a hairdryer, plus it costs about 10 quid a week in petrol and 300 a year insurance and can maintain a comfortable 45.

I have one that I can't seem to get running right again. Best advice I can give you is don't buy a chinese one. I put a larger head on the motor and blew it up. Buy a Rukus or a Vespa.

It's just one of those lame phrase that wasn't even funny the first time, let alone the umpteenth time. It also implies this really lame self-consciousness - I say if you like fucking fat girls and riding mopeds, then fuck what your "buddy" thinks.

My beef is with the phrase.

It's almost as bad as "if there's grass on the field, play ball"

to which some HILARIOUS INNOVATOR will inevitably respond with

"and if not, turn her over and play in the mud"

at which point I imagine they start enthusiastically jerking each other off while going "hur hur nice one bro hur hur". It's like the bro version of painfully going through a monty python routine (except monty python was actually funny in the first place).
