Default Barnes and Noble

Anyone know if books set off the alarms at Barnes and Noble? I know that Moleskine notebooks do not, A friend takes them all the time.

^ those are the devil himself.

You can peel them off but you have to complete dragonslayer on runescape to wear the rune plate required to remove those.

Those are such a bitch, especially when they FUCKING HIDE THEM 3 PAGES IN AND YOU SET THE ALARMS OFF

But check the first few pages and the last few and you'll know.

My friends tests if they have them by taking them into the bathroom and if they go off act confused as to why while holding the books.

There's also the thin, small, white rectangular ones. I forget what they're called - but, they're also a sticker that's hidden a few pages in - or if it's a hard back, it's hidden on the hardbacks sleeve.

Can't always trust that, my buddy almost got in trouble a few times not noticing them doing that.

I guess it really depends on the book. All the field guides I have that were "gifts" had the tags in the books all over the place. Some of the books even sourced multiple times! 4 was the most in one., But Sitting in the reading area, flipping pages I have always found them all. Its annoying when you are reading a book in the store then a tag is over some important text!

I didn't know that

Flipping though all the pages may take awhile but it is worth it...
Somebody really should open a discussion on BAM! (Books-a-Million) because they're just popping up everywhere and the security there is way stricter than at Borders.

I asked an employee for help with a particular book at one point. He helped me find it, then out of his pocket I watched him source the book on the spot. I acted like I hadn't noticed and he walked away after the fact. Yeah, ridiculous!

That's ridiculous. I think seeing that would prompt me to steal it, I hate book stores..

Also be aware of RFID strips, hidden in the spine of books. They are a bit harder to remove.

The B&N in my area only uses square RFID tags on the textbooks, all other books are untagged. My friend also checks for tags, anyway just to be safe. She has been lifting from there a lot lately. It's hard to find an unoccupied blind spot so she has been going on rainy days and slipping the book under her jacket which she keeps draped over her arm and taking it to the bathroom to slip into her purse.

Correct me if i am wrong, but can't you simple use a knife to cut through the square RFID ? i thought you can "cut and de-activate" the RFID with the slice/hole through it? that is faster and easier than peeling it off.

Not sure about that. Test it?

I still prefer peeling it off just so I know for sure. Can never be to safe.
