You know the funny thing. Pirating TV is considered "piracy". Family pays for basic cable in all the rooms, yet I still pirate TV shows. Why? Not for the edited commercials (bonus), but for the simple fact I can watch shows 2 hours earlier on the West Coast freeing up my time to do other shit at night.

This kind of shit the Media Giants will never understand. They will fail at every level they try to bring content to the Internet until they let go of the TV platform. Shit, these stupid fucks can't even bring themselves to converting all there systems to full IPTV. The amount of bandwidth you'd free up and money you'd save only having to broadcast each channel instead of forcing all the channels at the same time down your pipes, would be fucking unreal. Basically switching channels would send an upstream packet to another channel on there servers and thus you hoping right on another stream.

This is how online streaming sites do this, it's possible today, yet these assholes still will never get it. So what we learned? It isn't about enhancing the experience. It isn't about saving money. It isn't about making things easier and creating a wider audience. It isn't even about making money either.


It's about CONTROL. They can't control the Internet, but they can control there own cable systems since it's all going through there hardware.

With CD's and other hard copies I can also get the best possible quality. Virtually all torrents have compressed versions of the original which is of lesser quality. Even FLAC's and APE's (considered lossless) are still compressed.

As far as Tivo goes, they fought it tooth and nail back in the day. I remember the lawsuits clear as day and how they drove Replay TV (Tivo's much better competitor) to the fucking ground and then after half a decade cable co's started developing their own DVR's which are still utter shit compared to what was possible a decade ago. No progress has really been made since they came out because of the constant fighting that took place and Tivo is a dying brand.

Alas I still don't see the point of having a schedule. Why not allow people to watch the day's content any time of the day instead of having to record it for later and watch it the next day or what not? It just isn't worth the hassle, nor the monthly fees for those proprietary services that Cable Co's have made in response to DVR technology.
