How good is weed at pain relief really?

Say you broke your arm, good idea to toke up before you get to a hospital? Or more reasonably if you have a really bad headache or something? I'm usually not in pain or I would try myself.

The difference is quite substantial though.

Yeah I would say weed is better for minor pain such as minor headaches or muscle pain after working to hard or something. But i've been in the hospital and although dat morphine feels good to me for a good 5 minutes, dat hydromorphone shot is where it's really at.

I've shot up the 4mg pills, and sure they feel pretty fucking good with the rush and all. But there is just something about that clear pharmaceutical made liquid IV dilaudid. I don't know why, but the 1mg shot of dilaudid they gave me while I was in-patient in the hospital almost equaled 4mg's of a "pill shot" They would give me a shot every 4 hour's, and believe me I would be watching that clock.

Soon as the shit entered my IV, it's like the warmest feeling starting at the shoulders and progresses down to your leg's and feet. But I was in methadone withdrawal at the time so maybe I just THOUGHT it felt stronger because it was providing relief from that hell.

My cousin also claims that he sometimes feel's his brain "squeezing" or something like that. And I may be wrong but, if you think you actually get "brain pain" then weed probably does actually help you brain pain. As it may just be in your head. Could it possibly just be a headache?

Friend of mine has a really bad case of rheumatism. It's a very rare form and there are no meds available. He has to take bunch of other pills that were designed for other kinds of rheumatism, but they don't work and make him feel like shit.

He's been a pothead for years though, and he says weed is the only thing that helps ease the pain.

its kind of difficult to explain to someone whos never smoked....but weed isnt a painkiller persey... Its great for like muscle soreness or burns and stuff. But like broken arms, twisted joints...doesnt do anything.

It seems to reduce pain in certain diseases (usually when inflammation is involved) but it's not a general painkiller like opiates are.

weed works wonders with my lower back pain I get after a long day hunched over in the lab...

I am weed-free for 15 days...smoked about 7 synthetic joints since then...doin pretty good I think for someone that was at 3.5 g of high quality per day...but I am having back pain right now that is severe enough that I am not finishing my lab work...I don't like taking opiates...if I could just take a couple puffs of tree and it wouldn't matter for the job market, I would...sigh...gotta tough it out I guess...lab work being held of until tomorrow, although im only gonna be fine, for what, 4-5 hours then be hurting again and have to stop? sigh...luckily im about done with my schooling, about to get a good job then after a while I can re-start if my job doesnt random drug test...if they do, Im screwed...I have drug seeking behavior on the record and cannot get any quality pain pills from the doctor...which is stupid, Im pretty responsible with drugs and wouldnt abuse vicodin (or morphine even) if I got it.....I'd use it as on the label so I could do what I gotta do...

TL/DR: I have minor backpain which prevents me from doing my work. A few puffs of high quality and I'm good to go. Far preferred over any opiate for my case.

Once I had a tooth rotting out and it was in so much pain that I was screaming, crying and biting a pillow just so I didn't scream so loud. It went on for days (eventually I got it filled)

I hadn't smoked weed in about 6 months total and then my sister suggested I smoke a joint that night.

I was at once amazed at how I wasn't sure if I was in pain or not - I just couldn't feel it at all anymore. So yeah, I'd say weed kicks ass for dealing with physical pain, for some odd reason.

It's not really a painkiller. Some find that it makes the pain more manageable. It's a mild psychedelic so everyone reacts differently.

Sounds like a caffeine withdrawal headache. Weed doesn't cure them though, even opiates don't cure them. Only more caffeine.

I'd probably swallow 5 or 6 before going to the hospital because the wait in the ER will be pretty long as they'll take the guy who comes in with a massive heart attack or gunshot wounds before you.

I think weed's better for more neuropathic pain, or some sort of pain from muscle tension. At lower doses, it doesn't really do much for inflammation, but there is a good amount of evidence to suggest some anti-inflammatory effect. I feel that if you smoke weed you can shift focus away from pain ("forget" the pain). I've only done one opiate (hydrocodone at the 22.5 mg, more like 18-20 mg). Sort of made me both detach from pain (total numbness) and sort of made me stop giving a fuck about pain. Combined with weed, that shit was the best.

yeah, that'll happen to me if i smoke way too much. I tend to just keep it to 2-3 bowls.

It depends on the type/severity of pain and how your body reacts to cannabinoids. But on the whole it's a very viable alternative for treating pain. If it's not enough by itself, it can be safely used with most pain medications without causing serious interactions.

I know first hand it's the best thing in the world for severe menstrual cramps (TMI, but true). Even better than hydrocodone or NSAIDs. It "takes your mind off" the pain, sure, but it also has legit muscle relaxant properties that are great for pain relief.
