Re: What makes you a loser?
Gayfox is a loser.
Not doing anything with your life is a loser in my book. If you are not working, going to school, learning a skill, apprenticing, looking after a family, applying yourself to some worthy cause, you are a loser. Not having a car or any other kind of belonging doesn't making you a loser, in fact having those things while you cannot afford them, ie living beyond your means DOES make you a loser. I have a car, I am in the process of getting a degree, I have varied groups of friends, unlike many people here I have a sex life, I own some nice things, I have an above average size wiener, I have a marginal income and although I am not as independent or financially stable as I would like to be, I am doing what I think is best with my life. I wish I was financially comfortable, I wish I had a high-paying job, I wish I lived in a better house/neighborhood and I wish I could afford to do a lot more things, but I cannot. Perhaps if I continue to apply myself (ie not be a loser) I will have all those things and more, but applying yourself and not wasting your potential is what separates you from the losers of this world.

Re: What makes you a loser?
Arms is actually right guys. If you are arguing with him you just don't get it. And neither agreeing with him or disagreeing with him makes you a fucking loser at least.
When he says "we are not our bodies" it means that the body itself is not all that defines us. Who we are is composed of the mind, the body, and the spirit. I work with computers a lot so I find this analogy works for me.
The body is like the physical hardware of a computer.
The mind is like the software that runs on the computer.
And the spirit is like the person who uses and programs the computer.
Without all three of these components a computer is useless.
This is an important concept to understand I think.

Re: What makes you a loser?
I am unaware of what to say to this.
I have a car (not very good, but I could quite easily afford one if I cared about such things), a pretty decent job (I earn around 43k per year) and a wife.
I do frequent social occassions (mostly work related or with family), so not too bad there.
I spend a lot of time on the internet/computer, so I guess that could make me a loser But then again, I reckon that's the kind of day and age we live in.

Re: What makes you a loser?
When I think of the term, "loser" I think of an underachiever or an adult that never took on the responsibilities of an adult and still tries to live like a prepubescent or a teenager still at home.
A loser, to me, is typically someone with no prospects:
- They're without a job or any other source of income.
- They own no real possessions of their own. The few things they do have were given to them by family and friends.
- They have no significant other
- They still live at home and are over 18 and not in college
- They allow their parents to perform chores and duties there in the home that they themselves should be doing (clothes, cleaning room, doing dishes, garbage, etc.)
- Usually they have no real hobbies other than the internet, video games, or drugs.
- Worst of all, they're happy this way & want it to remain this way.
All of these things is what constitutes a loser in my mind.

Is slinging heroin a source of income?
Is having everything you own and all your actions controlled by a gang considered the rest of your list?
Are you happy to support these people or do you want them to change?

I feel like a loser, but I'm getting smarter every day... it's all about balance.
Not having "prospects" is one thing, it's another to choose not to for fear of failure.
Work on the self, take opportunities as they come and get out there.

I'm not really one for blowing up threads about this kind of stuff and I respect that many of you will choose to not believe this and argue with this point, but...
It's really the same thing, if you can get what I mean by that. My understanding is that what we see as "real life" is actually an illusion and is only part of the big picture. It serves a function for our spiritual higher selves to grow and learn. We don't spend a lot of time in this reality, a human lifetime spans a TINY amount compared to the vastness of the universe and even just our planet. So to me it's actually more logical that there is some existence outside of our individual lifetimes, and perhaps reincarnation is actually how things work. I'm sure Arms has a better understanding of this than I do.
People who do not grasp this concept decide it's supernatural because it's literally impossible to prove, by the very nature of reality. It's funny that it works that way really. I grasp this concept because I have a problem logically with the existence of morals if this physical space and tiny lifespan we understand now is literally all that there is. It doesn't make any sense to me that we would be here experiencing life if there was no point to it. And if there is no point to our being here, I don't see any reason why not to go on a psychopathic rampage simply because that's more exciting and fun than this bullshit we have to deal with in being here.
So to me, the very fact that we even exist and that I am even typing this sentence means that there IS a point to us being here, and that this is probably not the first time I've been here. Same to all of you who are reading this, you just may or may not believe me. This really is a difficult concept though, it's very abstract, you can't take this stuff literally. I'd try to elaborate more but it's hard to explain my views and I think it would be beating a dead horse anyway, so I'm going to ask a question. To all of you who are not awake yet, and think that nothing happens when you die because this life is all that there is... why don't you go do some real life GTA shit? What's stopping you? What gives you any moral obligation whatsoever?
Anyway, I guess to keep this on topic, nothing makes you a loser other than thinking you are a loser. If you think you are a loser, why not do something to improve that? That's why we are here, to improve ourselves.

Re: What makes you a loser?
You wanna know why you're here? It's because a bunch of atoms and molecules and chemicals just happened to interact with each other in such a way to give you a semblance of consciousness and self awareness. This might sound like something amazing, but it's not. It took the universe billions of years of random chance to make it happen. And after you're gone, maybe 12 billion more years from now, it's possible that the universe will do it again somewhere else, but it won't have anything to do with the "human soul". But if you wanna think of that as some form of highger purpose or reincarnation or whatever, that's your business

Yeah sure, they just happened to interact, that's the prevailing scientific theory and it really does make a lot of sense given the timescale involved, but to me that's just what makes it so amazing. The fact that the laws of physics are even tuned to such a precise degree to make this experience even possible is incredible to me. It makes me think that there is some reason that things evolved this way rather than simply just by randomness. Matter seems to organize itself into more and more intelligent structures BY ITSELF, and DNA and RNA etc evolved specifically to preserve and replicate information, becoming more and more complex over time through evolution. That shit is fucking amazing! And eventually WE evolved, self aware beings capable of actually studying and understanding the universe to some degree.
To me that means that the universe was actually designed specifically to allow this to happen, even if the mechanisms of it happening are basically random.
I dunno, I just like to think that there is some purpose or reason behind everything, and there is also a great deal of stuff about the universe that we are not even close to understanding. So it doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility to me that there is some form of existence outside of what we can readily perceive. Somewhat like the Flatlanders not being able to accept the possibility of 3D space, because they can only understand their 2D world.

Do this, just don't fall asleep in the sun. I did that because it was so comfy and I woke up like an hour later covered in sweat. I was sunburned so bad, even blistered a little.
Got a pretty sweet tan out of it though

Re: What makes you a loser?
Nothing. I have my own place, I've got a great amount of savings and investments, I have great friends, I have a great family, I have a great education, I have good career prospects, I'm in good shape, I've done a fair bit of world travel, etc. The only thing is that I'm bad at holding down relationships, but fuck it, who wants to be tied down in their early/mid-20s?
I don't own a car though, you materialistic bastards*. Metal death boxes. I take public transit by choice. Big cities ftw
