Default I aspire to become a rockstar.

I can already picture it. I just know that I'm made for fame. I need to be loved by the masses, I want people to chant my name and love me for the amazing and talented songwriter and guitarist I am.

I'm so determined, I don't give a fuck, I'd sell my soul for this shit. I know this sounds childish and unrealistic, and managing my expectations is important, but if I can't be famous I don't wanna live.

Are there any steps towards achieving this goal?

Practice.

Practice playing guitar day and night, make it your food and water. Get decent at singing, then bring a band together and do some covers before you do much of your own stuff. Don't be afraid to dip into different styles than you're used to. You and the feelings that you express transcend all boundaries of genre, the best musicians know this. Practice songwriting. Try selling your good work to more popular artists to boost your confidence and make some cash.

Move to a big city with a large music scene if you aren't in one already, do what zanick said, and be extremely, extremely lucky. Also be prepared for the strong possibility of earning a meager living teaching spoiled kids during the day and playing cover songs at night at over-30 type bars, because frankly the whole nature of the music industry isn't really producing "rock stars" at the moment.

Important questions:

What kind of music do you play?

How old are you?

Where do you live?

Do you have experience in bands? Lots of songs already written?

Were you under the influence of anything when you made this thread?

You can sell jack shit, make music that requires very little musical ability and still be a rock star, look at GG Allin.

Being a rockstar is a really really unrealistic goal to reach. I think it would be better to have a dedicated fanbase, however small, and make music that is satisfying for yourself and brings joy to others. If you're making music with the goal of achieving fame and fortune, you're playing music for the wrong reasons. If your desire to be famous is really that strong, it's likely that it's coming from some sort of insecurity or personal fault. It would be better to identify what's causing you to feel that way and correct it than to focus on a goal that you have basically zero chance of achieving. I have no idea what kind of music you play or how good you are, but it doesn't really matter. Like i said, you're doing this for the wrong reasons.

I play in a band myself, and although we haven't had any substantial achievements, we have a pretty devoted fanbase that consists of mostly our friends and other people who we've met through our music. We work hard at our craft , and although we are always trying to reach more people and gain wider exposure, we harbor no delusions about wild success and achieving rockstar status.

Also, not sure if troll.

Please, kid. Quit while you can. If you're just doing this to get rich/famous and fuck bitches, and it sounds like you are, you are only gonna be disappointed. It's a difficult industry to get into. While hard work and dedication are key, Luck is a huuuuge factor in becoming a "Rock Star".

If, however, you just wanted to play music for a living... I would encourage you. It really is a labor of love. Personally, I don't care about big record deals or how many people know my name. I just want to be able to support myself by doing what I love. If that's what you're looking for, then good luck. If not.. I hope you fall flat on your face.

Pop punk music, sounds like blink-182, Sum 41, Simple Plan and All Time Low. I'm 19, I live in Australia and I've written heaps of songs. Not the lyrics, but the music (which is the important part anyway). I was dead sober when I made this.

What I've written actually does take musical ability, you have to know about 'bars' and which notes go with which power chords etc. etc.

It is possible to get away with knowing very little (look at early blink 182) but I reckon it all sounds pretty catchy.

Why the hell would anyone troll about something like this? Jesus.

I know it's unrealistic, but there are still relatively unknown bands who play at big events. Ever heard of farewell fighter?

Well I do care about it. I've been bullied and neglected. NIGGER.

In all seriousness though, I know luck is a big part of it, however the rest is how well you can 'market' yourselves.

Here's my plan, I'm going to create 10 youtube channels, right? On all of these channels I'll upload heaps of really popular pop songs which go off, like Call Me Maybe by Carley Rae Jaspen (or whatever her name is), Boyfriend by Justin Bieber, One Direction music and other shit like that. This is to get as many subscribers as possible. After doing that on 10 accounts for a while, I can get all together like, 500,000 subscribers. I then put my song on all the the accounts. Also, I'm going to buy youtube hits and around 10,000 facebook likes to get the ball rolling (who's going to click on a song with 200 views on youtube?).

Yeah: No more sex, masturbation or even privacy to have an erection, and the only coping method of being on a bus with 4 guys all the time is drugs. So if the addictions dont kill you, going nuts from being with 4 guys will kill one of you.

Looks fun. No thanks.

I ditched my friend when he wanted to take my guitar skills and capitalize on them. Someone who avoids work by selling drugs, but then in turn doesnt give a shit for those of us who have no choice. This is after having graduated school and worked my ass and dick off at several jobs, one point working 70 hours for 7 months straight, with no time for literally anything else, the kid would ask me to record shit for him on the weekends with my smidget of time. While he went and fucked his girlfriend happily day and night, I came home to my psychopathic parents after having my hands chapped to pieces washing dishes at a restaurant, and drilling my brain full of technical PC knowledge and networking all day. Ive got to say, playing music was my only coping tool and this complete dick didn't even see the shit I had to do and figured he could just use me to get famous. "IM GONNA BE FAMOUS MARK MY WORDS IM GONNA BE FAMOUS" he would keep saying.

The solution I realized, is to seek women and get rid of the idea of super stardom, money, doing anything where I cant have privacy every night to be outside and with a woman or alone. Fuck being a rock star, and fuck my friends. Oh he had a kid shortly afterwards. Good luck to him now, I think I'm done with "big rich dreams".

In a band you are only going to have time for drugs, one night stands, and money. Its very hard to find peace in that lifestyle, which is why I say fuck that shit, but dont get me wrong I do love music, concerts, have even traveled with a friend's band. At the end of the night a woman loves you more than your money, fans, or your job. So why do anything that could jeopardize that?
