Re: Any canadians in the house?
Visible minorities and Aboriginal population
Canada 2006 Census Population % of Total Population
Visible minority group
Source:[16] South Asian 1,262,865 4
Chinese 1,216,565 3.9
Black 783,795 2.5
Filipino 410,695 1.3
Latin American 304,245 1
Southeast Asian 239,935 0.8
Arab 265,550 0.9
West Asian 156,700 0.5
Korean 141,890 0.5
Japanese 81,300 0.3
Mixed visible minority 133,120 0.4
Other visible minority 71,420 0.2
Total visible minority population 5,068,095 16.2
Aboriginal group
Source:[17] First Nations 698,025 2.2
Métis 389,780 1.2
Inuit 50,480 0.2
Total Aboriginal population 1,172,785 3.8
White 25,000,150 80
Total population 31,241,030 100
That's counting Arabs, Latin Americans, west and south Asians as "non-White" even though they are White people. So Canada is 80% White according to it's own government, but actually 86% White according to reality.

Re: Any canadians in the house?
Yep. I remember when a black family moved into my small town. They were treated especially nice. No one was prepared to say something bad about them. Not that there was anything wrong with them. In fact, I went on the radio in french class with this dark motherfucker and we had a fun time. FUcking around and not caring back when I was 15. My only real experience with black folk. Except for variety stores and salvation army drug spots.

Re: Any canadians in the house?
Not OP, but how does IT look in Canada?
Also, is BC the only province where there are cool mountains and shit and is there decent IT work in that region?
I'm thinking of moving to Canada, I've just begun researching it. It seems I might need a work permit, since the no-visa rule applies for 6 months only. Is Canada generous with work visas for specialized workers?

There are nice mountains in the coloured sections of this map. Of course, there are mountains elsewhere in Canada, but they look like hills by comparison.
There's IT work everywhere, but work visas generally require some serious qualifications.

God damn it! I'll only have an A.S. and some cisco certifications. I gotta look more into it, but as I was reading the wikipedia article on Canada - they have a fuck huge immigration going on for them. I thought they would want skilled workers? I'll check their website for more info.
The reason why I'm looking at Canada is because there's less coloreds, more nature and I'm hoping they don't follow certain American trends which disgust me.

You're a typical low-brow racist who knows nothing about how Canadian immigration actually works. Congratulations.

I think people outside of Canada think of the country in a way that doesn't quite line up with modern reality. I think a lot of people assume Canada is just a larger version of some small town in Ontario. The reality is that Canada is a largely urban country and our cities are actually very, very diverse racially - and Canada pulls it off fairly well.
To moan about a broader issue here - people's perceptions about Canada really are skewed. They're based in this whole rural Ontario Trudeau-era stereotype that isn't terribly relevant anymore. Yeah, we're polite and we like hockey, but Canada is in the middle of a character-defining change as far as I can see. The point to this mini-rant is that Canada isn't necessarily what you may expect it to be... though it is pretty great

That's statistically not true and multiculturalism is only embraced by Canadians out of smugness.

Feel free to show me these statistics proving multiculturalism isn't working comparatively well in Canada. Out of all the rich countries, Canada is handling it best. I'm not claiming it's perfect, but merely that Canada's unique status as a young, rather cultureless nation allows it to be a society that can handle many ethnicities living alongside one another. It's much different in countries like France or England where people feel their centuries/millennia old cultures are under seige, but Canada is very well suited to continue as an immigrant society that's not solely here for white people.
As for smugness - I think your characterization of Canadians who embrace multiculturalism as "smugness" is more a result of your personal dislike for multiculturalism. Most folk I know have no problem with multiculturalism because they genuinely don't have a problem with it. I'm sorry you feel that has to be a result of "smugness".

Oh, in no way do I think that Canada is a rural place. Looking at the statistics it seems that most citizens are rather focused in a bunch of pretty damn big cities and that there's a lot of wilderness in many spots. For me it seems it's the best of both worlds - life in a big city but with mountains and nature within 100km of it.
Also, I didn't wanna sound racist, it's just that immigrants in the US behave radically different than immigrants in other countries. I'm comparing the countries where I've been like Austria, Belgium, or Scotland - most immigrants there seemed to be well assimilated, part of the culture and overall cheery folk (except maybe the paki's and their ghettos), whereas I think we all know how the majority of afro-americans behave.
Aside Canada, I'm also considering a few places in Europe, but Canada seems to have more nature going for it as well as being less strict then, say, Germany.

As far as I know .... gay unions are EQUAL to conventional marriages thar, so consider that as well.
I've been browsing craiglist for just such an union and I suggest that you do it too.
