I wonder how many of you really understand the religion of Islam? I'm sure some of you do, but it seems too much of a "trend" more than anything to bash such a peaceful religion. Sure, there are radicalist.. but what religion doesn't have those? It appears that even atheist have a certain prejudice against these people, unrelated to the notion of denying the existence of a god. Just because a certain sect of people carry out terrorist attacks in the name of their god, does that give us justification to denounce their religion as idiocratic brainwash? I'm sure some would say yes.. But that just reminds me of the maturity and age of the majority of members on these boards. It's funny that Zoklet is primarily thought of a group of outsiders, or a collection of diverse thinkers that share taboo concepts not completely accepted by society.. but it would seem more apparent everyday that instead of being logical, your hopping onto the popular bandwagon. I had a neutral opinion of Islam when I was uneducated about it. It was only after I researched the Koran, Haddiths, and Mohammad's life that I realized how violent, sexist, oppressive, and barbaric the religion and its prophet are. It's no coincidence that Muslims around the world use violent terrorism--it is part of their religious doctrine, from teachings in the Koran, to the very life that Mohammad led. If you deny that, then you might as well proclaim that up is down. The real problem here is that you, and indeed, most liberals, ignorantly defend something that you have hardly any knowledge of.

Educate yourself and I doubt you'll have such an easy time singing your apologist, denialist tune.

Both Judaism and Christianity have plenty of barbarism in their scriptures, but both religions have counteracted such things with positive, clear guidelines about how one should live.

No matter what you can say about OT Christianity or the Christian subtext that non-believers will suffer eternally, the religion still has a prophet who lived an exemplary, peace-promoting life. No matter what you can say about ancient Jewish traditions, they have established new traditions and laws in which education and harmony are valued above all.

Islam has barbaric scriptures, a barbaric prophet, and even moderates have done little/nothing to identify and condemn those aspects of their religion. Islam doesn't have a nice, neat message that says, "Accept Allah and ask for forgiveness and you can go to heaven." Rather, it has hundreds of laws (barbaric and positive ones), a deplorable prophet, and "doing good deeds" (ie. following Islamic law as best one can) is one's best chance of guaranteeing a place in heaven.

Regardless, the point isn't how Islam compares with Christianity and Judaism. My only point is that Islam directly and strongly promotes virtually all of the problems we see coming from the Islamic world today.

Muslums don't kick out their terrorists who commit murder in the name of their god. That makes them complicit to mass murder, IMO. When members of other religions such as Hindus, Buddists, Jews, Christians, etc. (it happens), commit murder or other crimes, their religious orders excommunicate, shun, denounce, or otherwise publicly ban them from the religion. Not so with muslums. That is one reason that their religion is held in low regard by many.

I think you need to differentiate between Judist and Christian texts on that. Christian texts might be a bit sexist on some areas, but barbarian they are not. You get the barbarian sentiments from the Jewish Old Testament.

The fact is your generalizing a whole religion. You do realize that even in the Christian faith, there are branches upon branches of different sects.. set apart due to different interpretations.
