What's wrong with that? So long as you gained some pretty basic education from your time spent in the military, you could probably take up some form of management training with them.

It's funny cause the average person idolizes those in the armed forces then 7-11 is like "OH HAI come work for us with all your training and military expertise, you'd be perfect here."

Also regarding original post, If you're a 18 yr old kid that does his 4 years and gets out, then 7-11 isn't a horrible job for you. Just depends what your field was... I don't expect many intelligence officers to work there, but a MWR troop who spent his/her 4 years mopping floors and serving food probably will. Military is just like any other job... There are good jobs and crappy ones, and more of the latter. They'll get the same treatment out as in.

Damn small world. I lived in Hauptstuhl, about 20 minutes south of Baumholder on A62. I suppose with 50,000+ Americans in that area, and this being an English speaking forum, chances aren't too bad, but still.

What about getting hired by a private military company, ie blackwater (now Xe) or Dyncorp. Getting paid 500-1000$ a day working private security overseas doesn't sound too bad. The PMC is a 100 billion dollar a year industry now, with shitloads of opportunites for recently discharged Marines and Special Forces operatives.

Maybe a military veteran who, having been in the military, is not hurting financially and wants a job with minimal responsibility would work for 7-11. One of my mom's ex-boyfriends delivered pizzas while he was still in the air force, because he was good at it, enjoyed it and made extra money. Is it a bad thing that pizza places hire military? I think it is, but that's not what this post is about.

Fact of the matter is you're acting like douchebags. You're privileged, and it's clear that most of you don't deserve it. After your job with the government ends, you're pretty much guaranteed this job if you want it. The application and hiring process would probably be expedited. All of the other applicants would take a second place to you, and someone else would automatically be crossed off of the possible employment list. They like to hire ex-military, and it's really not for any reason. It makes them feel good, they place pride in the fact that they treat you better than other people. If they do manage to hire veterans (and i am sure they do), they take pride in your pride. Because your former job is a defining factor in who you are and none of us are ever allowed to forget that.

If, after you get out of the military, you decide that a job at 7-11 is not for you, then don't apply for a job there. No one is telling you that you must work there, or somewhere like it, when you get out. But PLEASE, don't scoff at what is offered politely simply because you are used to having more. It's childish.
