Turning a PHPBB2 board into a Searchable Archive

I have an old phpbb2 board that i want to turn into an searchable archive. Does anyone have any experience with this, or ideas on how to hack one together?

What do you mean by searchable archive? Just a read only bbs? Minimal HTML? An XML listing of the site's db?

What I was hoping for was a PHPBB Viewer that I can just chuck on top of the database that has a searchable "All Topics" page linking to an individual "View Topic" page. Simple and straight forward. The only archive mod I found converts topics to static HTML. This isn't really useful in this case so I'm currently coding my own one...
