Why is your favorite sports team your favorite?

I was raised in Las Vegas, a city with no sports teams whatsoever. My parents aren't into sports at all. Most of the people who live here have moved from somewhere else, leading to a large variety of team preferences.

Is your team preference inherited from your family? Your hometown? A specific player? A mascot? Do you like them because they are good this season? Or perhaps because they are the underdog?

What's your reason?

My dad grew up in Pennsylvania during the the Steel Curtain age so he always watched Steelers games which means I always watched them while i was young so i began liking them too.

I think it stems from my childhood, when I was just a kid in the late 80's my brother used to have his friends over to watch leaf games and I'd always hang around them and I just kinda grew into loving hockey and the leafs that way. For other sports, I don't know, I've liked the lakers since I was a kid, back in the magic/jordan days. Other sports I don't follow enough to say I have a favorite team.

I usually become a fan of a specific player and end up rooting for that player's team (for example, I root for the Phoenix Suns only because I'm a Steve Nash fan).

I'm an Ottawa Senators fan 'til the day I die.

Probably mostly due to the fact that I live in Ottawa and have my entire life. Also, the fact that the Senators were dissolved and then brought back in 1990, which is the year I was born so I watched pretty much the entire modern life of this team.

When the Tampa Bay Devil Rays were formed in 1998 I was 11 I started going to games. I've been going to games ever since. I also worked for them. I live 10-15 minutes from the stadium. I love the Rays. It also doesn't hurt that we aren't last place anymore.

or I just enjoy watching them play - Liverpool FC, Everton FC, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Galatasary. Also helps if Aussies are in the team.
