Holyoke Cabin - a shipping container house

Alright

I know some of you are into shipping container houses so I thought this might be of interest

I like the way that they've left the containers with their original paint and markings. It seems more honest than painting them or covering them so that they don't look like containers anymore.

They don't seem to have any insulation though, and without painting them I'd be worried about rust. My parents have a container lockup which was new about ten years ago but recently the company had to replace it because it was rusted though. The UK is perpetually damp though.

You can get spray on silicone, they use it down here to spray the tops of power poles so they dont catch on fire during the summer

Otherwise a quick coat of kill rust, then in the corrugated bits you fill with insulation, and use some weather board/plaster board to hold it all in. Add a roof slope, to allow water to drain off(into a tank i guess), and it's all set. Ideally the roof slope would be insulated underneath, and it should must definitely be water tight. Might be expensive to paint a 40' container

im very interested in these. mainly for living underground. i want an underground home very badly. there are tons of problems that arise with this topic of course.... so anyone wanna also discuss underground shipping container homes also? i contribute

- Must be watertight
-have proper plumbing
-something to rust proof the entine home.
- additional support? idk how sturdy those bad boys are

You can stack containers like 10-15 high, but the roof itself may not be strong enough to support the weight, so some additional metal(usually steel I beams) should be welded on there if there is going to be considerably amounts above it. Also, the spaces in between the steel I beams can be used to stick drainage/stones which drain to a soak well so it doesnt pool and cause it to rust.

Also, why did the government raid and close that underground shelter made with buses and concrete and stuff? It had no weapons in it, it had no drug making equipment in it, it had nothing illegal, and the cops didnt even have a warrant half the time. And they wonder why everybody hates them(the cops)

I don't know why, but I was struck with the notion of taking a few of those train cars or maybe large shipping containers and turning it into a store of some kind. I can see how making a home out of several of them would be a problem, and I'll admit, it wouldn't be easy on the eyes, especially with rust. To each their own, I suppose.
