I think I read somewhere that along with Germany (or it could have been conversly to Germany), Australia's average time served for a murder sentence is incredibly low. As in 10-12 years with a noticable percentile going down to 7 years. I think it is stacked oddly though because they must have included manslaughter, and none of the 'never to be released' sentences.

The US is hardly any better. We'll off some real psychos here and there to make a point(completely ineffectively), but there's still violent rapists and shit that serve under a year and get parole. I don't remember much of my research, but I had to write a paper on it in my Comp. Class frosh year, and the average sentence these guys are serving almost made me physically ill.

I don't understand how he could be walking the streets, but now he has a big fat target on his head, so it won't matter. I think they should have removed one of his eyes, to symbolize the "eye for an eye" which does work in cases like this. Also, that way parents can warn their kids to watch out for the guy without an eye, just in case he covers up the forehead scar with a hat.
