Default Harvesting coins from fountains.

One idea I had was to go to Vancouver CA, coins are magentic there. And vancouver has a good number of fountains. I was thinking just tie a magnet to a string, and walk by at like 2-3am and toss it in. The fountains with the most money in them are ones in shopping centers or malls. When I was 17 I went to one at a shopping center in the middle of the night and there was a ton of coins in there. They were all like...wedged at the top kinda, I was taking out handfulls, silver ones too, not just pennys. But then I was stopped by security. (didn't get in trouble)

Another idea that I have heard was put a clear net at the bottom, weigh it down inconspicuously with rocks or something.

I don't think coins are magnetic. You could try dressing up like a mall security guard and take all the coins though.

Some canadian coins are magnetic. Not all of them.

I've thought about doing this before too... Except I was like 8 years old at time.

nickles, dimes, and quarters are magnetic in Canada. In addition, most of the new pennies are as well.

new question. Why is it illegal to take the coins?

or take every coin individually to the police and say you want them to hold on to it in case the owner comes looking for it

It would be pretty easy to make a robot/rc thing to collect the coins and would probably easier and more profitable if you did that.

Hmm, robot pool cleaner? I have one of these (not the exact model here) and it just drives around and gets everything in the pool. Could work for coins haha

Actually both one and two dollar coins are magnetic as well. All Canadian coins are ferromagnetic, except for old pennies and many non-circulation coins. Technically, only the outer ring of the Toonies is magnetic as it's nickel. Both nickel and steel are magnetic and all modern Canadian circulation coins contain at least one of the two.

Because their not your coins... Duh.

Once they get throw in the fountain they belong to whoever owns the fountain. Same concept as a bubble gum machine, except instead of getting gum for the money the person is supposed to get good luck.

This has to be one of the lamest things I have ever heard

Also most of the fountain have cameras on them anyway and they are watched

You would risk a theft charge for ten bucks

I question the illegality of this too. If some idiot throws a coin on the ground, you may pick it up. What's different from a fountain too? Finders keepers! Guess the law disagrees with me on this one.

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/WaterCoole...ory?id=9730160 That same story is the top 10 results on google, so I guess folks dont get caught too much. This guy was 47 years old and took $33. lol....

There used to do this ALL the time at the fountain near my house. Don't listen to these idiots, you can get a nice chunk of change for next to no work. Unless you're in a mall it's highly unlikely these fountains have cameras centered at them, so don't listen to idiots like Pill Popper who don't know what they're talking about but decide to post anyway.

Go out there with a magnet on a piece of string and laugh while you collect $30 in toonies, loonies and quarters in a few short minutes while these guys sit there flipping burgers for minimum wage.

they flip burgers everyday mate...how many fountains have you got to rob to be a millionaire

wait... let me check,$30 max(if ye lucky) per fountain=33333 fountains...goodluck

but...a hundred grand would suffice wouldn't it?? so divide the total by ten and you would need 3333 fountains... rob one fountain per day for ten years and you should have 100grand...one problem though...how many fountains in your city??5,6??

moral of the story...waste of time

Your argument is invalid for several reasons:

1) Many burger flippers do not work daily.
2) Very few, if any people at all, become millionaires directly as a result of low paying part time work.

And most importantly:

3) $30/hr>$10/hr

No one listen to pill popper, hes an idiot. I've never seen a fountain with a camera and I've been to fucking Rome. You will most likely get away Scott free from robbing the fountain... Its just a lot of work for next to no pay off.

Fucking idiot. How much do you pay to upkeep the ground? Nothing. Someone paid thousands of dollars to build the fountain, and they pay to have it maintained. Its their property. Thats like throwing your change into the sun roof of someones car and than acting confused when you get arrested for breaking into the car to get your change back. Jesus christ you are retarded.

I'd much rather do that for 10 minutes than work for 4 hours to earn the same amount of money.

By the way, your unfunny posts aren't funny.

They have these extend-able sticks with a magnet on the end - I seen one for $9 , you could surley make your money back by the end of 1 fountain.

Back in my 20's, I was dying for a cigarette once, and I ended up getting enough coins for a whole pack out of this dinky fountain near a church. It was great. I guess their wishes never ended up coming true because of the renegged contributions, but I didn't really give a fuck at the time.
