Do you live check to check?
How many users here live check by check? Maybe even have like $50 by the time your next check comes around still counts as check to check. Curious to see how it is for everyone around the world.
Most younger people I know do, or are dead broke by the first weekend and scrounge for the 5 days till they get paid. Older people usually have a better sense of money control, that being said though, it may not be a factor of control, but rather certain things must be paid and that's just how it is.
Personally I don't, my brother does, but that's by choice. Haha partying costs a lot. He has investments, so that plays a factor, he can cash in if he ever really needs to.

Re: Do you live check to check?
I have about 7k in the bank right now, but I have~ $15k in student loans that I start paying on in November. I'd like to save up enough to pay off at least half of them by the time I have to start paying on them.
I'm also going on a 3,000 mile road trip next week that I imagine will cost between $1,000 and $1,500, and I'm planning a slightly shorter one for the fall/winter. I'm basically just going to set aside $1,000 for the trip in the fall, keep $1,000 in my bank account, and put whatever is leftover towards my student loans.

Re: Do you live check to check?
Well, I could quit work tomorrow and it would be a while before I'd be broke.
But alas; I spend my wages when I get them. Mostly boozing. If I didn't get paid I'd go boozing less, probably just get smashed on cheap wine or something.

Dont live check to check. Try to have at least five checks worth in the bank at all times, and im young and in college with no debt.

Re: Do you live check to check?
If you're carrying debt, then I can understand and even recommend living from check to check for a while to pay it down, or off. If you aren't carrying any debt, then budgeting is an important skill that's worth learning.
I've lived from check to check a few times. It's good fun, but it's not a good habit, or lifestyle, to get into.
You're right though, a lot of young people do live check to check. Quite a few even live a bit beyond their means with credit cards.

Re: Do you live check to check?
I have a little over $400 in the bank, no job yet, nowhere to live in the fall, and I'm taking out another loan to cover some of my living expenses in the future. I'm pretty fucked.

I'm not paid via cheque. They're being phased out here within the next two years. Though I'm intrigued. How do you have your cheques checked without getting all confused?

I do.
Why ? Because even if the chance is slim, there's always the possibility of your life ending much sooner than expected.
Traffic accident, random criminal act, stroke, etc...

Re: Do you live check to check?
Far from it. Each week I put $150 to rent and utilities. $150 to food. $50 for going out. And put $700 in the bank.
Every time I'm over $2,000 I'll go out and get something that I've been wanting. But I always try and have a nice $2,000 padding.

Re: Do you live check to check?
The main reason I don't is for unexpected expenses. What if I get into an accident and don't have money to cover medication? What if my cat gets really sick and needs vet care?
It's also nice knowing if I want to, I can go on a vacation and not need to worry about cash.

Re: Do you live check to check?
Pretty much. Just got $100 and it's gone already paying back people I owed money to for various things like drugs, cell phone bill, gas, etc etc
I mooch a lot off the parents and girlfriend at the moment, but neither of them care as I'm fucking awesome and so giving me free shit feels good.

Re: Do you live check to check?
Unfortunately yes. I'm making better money now than I ever have in my life, but old habits die hard and I am usually broke (to me broke is 150s or less) with 3-4 days left before I get paid. Getting better at managing my money but I have expensive tastes. At least I never have to borrow money or pawn anything anymore. No payday loans either.

People from the medical field usually don't handle their payments. Go to a hospital and ask them to send the bill, then you trash it.
Vets; Same. They ask for money AFTER, leaving you a window to... 'deal with them accordingly'.
Vacations ? Any vacation spot usually has hundreds of people waiting...
If you're male and in need for money, go into a gay bar and order drinks around. Pick a guy, get to his place via an unwatched channel (avoid cameras) -> dispose of him.

Re: Do you live check to check?
I've always lived check to check. Im terrible with money really. I usually live really well at the beginning of the week, eating steaks and drinking decent booze, but right before the next paycheck its Milwaukees best and ramen.

There's a greater chance of you turning 65 and wishing you had something finances-wise to show for a lifetime of work than there is of you dying before that age.
In fact, if there is a traffic accident, random criminal act, stroke, etc, you may wish you had a nice emergency stash to help cover any problems with those. No, you aren't guaranteed tommorrow, but if tommorrow gets here and fucks you because you aren't prepared for it, then that's all on you.

Re: Do you live check to check?
I'm pretty decent at managing my money. My tastes are pretty simple: a steady flow of music and books is more than enough to make me happy in the material sense. Most of the activities that bring me the greatest happiness, like camping, working out, hiking, playing guitar/drums, meditating, etc, are free or very close to it.
I save probably close to 70% of my income, since I have very few expenses. As I get wealthier, I will probably be inclined to purchase some vintage guitars and perhaps a nicer car, but that will be about it. Unless I just become filthy rich by luck.

Re: Do you live check to check?
Yes, check to check. I used to be overdrawn by the end of every pay period but I opted out of overdraft to stop that. Now I just need to stop spending money on bullshit, keep up with bills to avoid more bills, maybe put in overtime. I'm also diverting 4% I think into 401(k).

If something like that ever happens, -I- will be the criminal act to cover the expenses. Won't be random tho and it wouldn't be the first time either
