Re: Vacation Time [Taking a Break]
It's not like it's hard to reward the good contributors and encourage them while at the same time stomping all over clown-children and their ilk. I don't see how it's such a big deal. Of course we don't have the site moving in the direction it needs to go, anybody can see that, but a moderator doesn't really need to take part in that private war if they don't want to; all they need to do is keep encouraging the people who can make this place great, while at the same time removing cancerous elements from the forums under their care... just let others continue the good fight. I don't see how this is all a big pressure. I can definitely see the frustration angle on it, and I can definitely see the disappointment angle on it, and I can definitely see the "put it to the man" angle on it, but I don't think a mod really needs to worry about that part of it, or be frustrated about it at all if they have no determined interest in continuing to try to make changes for the better.
Like, what I'm saying is, if it's just a matter of frustration and disappointment, you don't need to be a moderator to become that way. Any regular who wants real change for the better most likely feels exactly the same way. I guess it comes NOT down to whether one wants to continue modding or not, but it actually comes down to the question of if they want to be any part of this site at all. Frustration and disappointment are feelings that affect both moderators and regulars alike.

Re: Vacation Time [Taking a Break]
DFG....I really hope you give us an uncensored account of your feelings and thoughts in that thread you are talking about. You are one of the very few members here that could write a "goodbye" thread that would make significant impact....meaning you have enough respect and admiration from so many that this community WILL sit up and take notice.
I myself am sickened by how you and many of your other colleagues as moderators are underappeciated by the senior staff, and you are just the guy to give them a good come-uppance to where they've dropped the ball. Now granted, just like everything else they won't learn anything from their mistakes....but for a few brief moments or days you can at least let them stare at the ground and kick at the dirt while they ponder their own epic failures, neglect, and complete ignorance in how to treat other people.

Re: Vacation Time [Taking a Break]
I guess there's a point where we seriously have to ask ourselves... why are all the best posters continually leaving this community for good? From lifejunkie and yoyobek back on Totse to Oddballz194 and Dfg here Zoklet. Really interesting posters just saying fuck it and leaving one after the other. Why do they leave? Is there a problem... or is the real problem the inability of some to accept the fact that there is a problem? How many more need to be lost before it's accepted that there is in fact a problem? Do we wait until we've lost every single member who means anything to us before we realize there is a problem, or do we just go on... heedless of the consequences?

Re: Vacation Time [Taking a Break]
Even Fish... the ever-faithful... has almost completely stopped posting here. He still makes cameo-appearances, but that's about it. Wires hardly posts either. They're not the only ones. People just don't really give a shit anymore, and that's JUST MY OPINION... not that it's true or false. Why don't they give a shit anymore? Morons and uninteresting 10 year olds who have basically taken control of Community under the guise of the Free Speech gambit. Ya, I been singing this song for a long time now, and so have a few others, only now the concert is almost over... thanks to the bleeding hearts and liberals. At the same time that we've been providing rights and freedoms to the ones keeping this place alive, we've pandered to every kidiot from here to Timbuktu, and now we're seeing the damage done.

DFG is good, but he isn't that good! NOBODY getting super modded could help at this point because Zoklet is doomed with its ownership.
Zok could super mod Superman, Ghandi, Einstein and Socrates overnight......and it still would be a bust. Zok still would take them for granted, undermine them at every turn, completely ignore their wisdom, and all the while believe Wires is still "better" than them.

Re: Vacation Time [Taking a Break]
Jedi... you just gotta know that zok probably said that because he was trying to help out wires with the public image thing. His heart was in the right place. Ya, he may be really shitty at organization, as you say, but I'm confident what he said about wires was not part of that whole ballgame. He's just trying to help her out, that's all. He may have came out with the wrong wording, sure, but his intent was really to help, not to hurt. There's a whole slew of stuff we can get him on easy, so let's not bother beating this dead horse into the ground.

Sorry Spectral, ya can't unring a bell.....nor can you sugarcoat the tone of that bell.
And the last I checked there are several DOZEN moderators that could use some help or support around here, yet he doesn't lift one finger to come to their aid. And Christ, how much support does she even need? Senior staff position, Op in IRC, stroking her ego in chatroom and forum, calling her on the phone......yet Zok just HAD to come rushing in thread to save her "good name", all the while throwing the rest of his staff under the bus.

Well, another thing about this is he has his right to his opinion, too. If he truly feels that wires is doing more of a job than the other mods, that's his opinion, and he has every right to voice it if he so wishes. That doesn't make him automatically right, it just means that that's the way he sees it. Nah, the way I look at it, if that's the way he sees it, let him see it that way, and all the while, present your own opinion on the subject in order to refute. And I don't mean attack the man... I mean attack the opinion... with facts and opinions of your own. We can't persecute him for having an opinion, even if he is in the wrong.

You're off-topic cunt. The discussion at hand is the perceived worth of the hard working moderators. Please stay on topic. We've had just about enough of you idiots trying to destroy valid discussion with your useless bullshit.

I don't know what you're talking about, when it was Dfg himself that raised in his opening post the very issue we are now discussing. Really, the only off-topic posts I see in this thread are the ones like you just left here.

Excuse me? DFG updated this thread about what was going on and a glimpse into what it was like while he was gone. He also informed us of an upcoming thread... Yet, the last few posts have been about Zok, wires IRC... The discussion of what could be causing DFG to leave has long since been passed.

It's pretty plain to everybody but you, apparently, why Dfg made this thread, and what the actual point of it is. Anyways, I'm not going to discuss this if you keep breaking into the conversation with an attempt to stifle it.

I've been meaning to ask: how many degrees of separation from the OP does a post have to be for it to be off topic?
I mean the convo went why dfg is leaving -> zok is a dick -> proof that zok is a dick.
Hardly off topic. Although not exactly on topic.
Not like someone started talking about bananas or something.

Re: Vacation Time [Taking a Break]
I guess it fucking is then, eh? I don't really care much at all if you guys want to fuck this thread up now. DFG said himself that he's making a new one so I'm not too opposed to this one turning into a multiple page shit throwing fest that will be graced with topics such as Zok doesn't do anything, All the supermods are lazy, the infraction system should be changed, MAYBE the whole IWD and Rizzo thing, and of course the bannings of users.
This is your captain speaking, you are now free to discuss whatever the fuck any of you want in this thread. As long as it pertains to the "bullshit" around this site.

That's a hard thing to tell. Obviously I can't seem to grasp that NONE of the last few posts were starting to get off topic. You must be just as clueless as I am though, HTS, to notice such a thing.
In short, it's to the discretion of the forum moderator to determine if a thread/post is or is going to be off topic.

No, the discussion hasn't long since passed....as he still hasn't made that new thread and by the clues he's left it is most certainly does point to Zok, Wires, and the IRC people Zok hides behind. Or are you really ignorant of the context of these threads and believe something OTHER than Zok's neglect and obliviousness to most of his staff is why DFG is heading for greener pastures?

Re: Vacation Time [Taking a Break]
O_Rly....while you are getting so defensive and butthurt about your ole pal Zok's problems around here, you ever step back and wonder just why so many people blame him for most of what is wrong with the website? Seriously, do you really think this is just some group mindset....and people are making this up as some communal hallucination? Most importantly, if Zok is doing such a "good" job with this community....then why after a year and a half is he losing respect rather than gaining it as every day goes on?
Everyone loved the guy 1/09.....and now the members that actually find respect for him are few and far between.
Stupid question for ya, a little game to play in your mind....If it were possible to go back to the day of the Totse merge, what is a more likely scenario in your mind? That hundreds upon hundreds of users could also be mesmerized by Zok like he has flim-flammed his chatroom buddies believing he has done a good job around here, and everyone will just whistle past the graveyard claiming how wonderful everything is? Or Zok will finally get a clue and learn how to treat other people better, thusly not earning him the scathing criticisms that are accurate and just?
You and I both know we could play that out 1,000 times and Zok's ego and ignorance will NEVER allow him to learn anything, or understand the right way to deal with friends, staff members, and a general userbase.
In essence, the reason these threads about people's frustrations or problems about Zoklet very often"digress" to bitching about Zok....is because he really is that lousy of a website admin, despite what his friends IRL or in a chatroom tell him while blowing smoke up his ass. Basically scoffing or bitching about Zok is almost ALWAYS topical, as almost all of the failures around here goes right back to his feet.
