Pedobaiting Legality

I was wondering about the legality of pedobaiting. Okay, we all know that blackmail is illegal, so I'm not asking about that aspect of pedobaiting, I'm wondering if it's legal to pretend to simply ask them for money to 'buy a webcam' or some shit like that. Obviously you'd still want to protect your identity (don't want to get butt sexed at night!) but are there any negative repercussions to pretending to be someone you're not, asking asking for money?

I don't actually believe it's illegal to either lie on the internet OR ask for gifts individually, so by legal logic both of them combined should be legal.

Asking for gifts is perfectly legal as long as you are not bringing up the fact you have evidence against them. The illegal part starts when you inform them you have the logs and you want something.

None of you have ever watched court tv? Deception for personal financial gain is generally prosecuted as fraud or some goofy part of a theft statute. Dont mind me, just a former attorney.

I'll give you that it's not 100% free-and-clear legal, but there's definitely enough slack to either avoid prosecution or argue viably in court.
