Default ALICE IN CHAINS (with "new" singer) *summer 2009*

Okay so Alice in Chains are coming out with a new album. I guess Cantrell thinks he is better off with aic than doing his solo gig as he was a few years back. With so many (including myself) thinking AIC needs to hang it up and start over with a new name/image after Layne Staleys death...curious to see if anyone has an opinion on William Duvall (also black) taking over the leads in the band.

They are set to release the next album, after what 12 years..summer 2009..they have not sent out a single yet...but I am sure whatever they are coming up with will probably not work out.

Bands of the 90s like AIC, Blind Melon, yada yada re forming after the deaths of the main inspirations to their music...IDK I say move on and change your name..because what you were then..and the shit you sang about..will never be the same w/o the main people behind those songs.

So Zoklet what do you think? Is the 90s coming back in a good way? Or is this using your "branding" name to try to re capture your fame?

I think one of the reasons I like Alice in Chains is because of Staley's voice. I don't know if I'd like AiC with a different singer. I think some bands, but particularly Alice in Chains, need to give it up once the "main" part or element of the band, has died.

I've given this a lot of thought and most bands need to be told that they're never going to be like they were "back then", maybe that's a good thing. So either drop the past or move on to different things.

Staley wasn't the "main inspiration". Cantrell wrote most of AICs' lyrics and music and even sang sometimes, so it isn't that far-fetched to think that he can revive this band. Of course, Staley was undoubtedly the voice of AIC. But they can probably find someone who sounds similar.

Are you joking? The rest of the band > Layne Staley.

Anyway, new album better not suck.

Again, I am not saying that the rest of the guys shouldnt go on...just shouldnt go on under "aic" because what they were then is not who they are now..

I am glad to see them back together..only wish they would change their name..alice is not alice without Layne...and no it was like Layne wrote 60% Jerry wrote 40%...but the songs layne wrote and the image people have of AIC is because of what Layne wrote...drugs and such..

Duvall has come a ways vocally which is good..cause I think he sucked and still kinda does...I want them to come out with a new sound and new name...they will never be like they were nor do I want them to try, which is why I think they need to move on and call themselves something else now...the legacy of alice will always be with Layne.

You know, I'm not really sure how I feel about it. I'll give it a shot, however I was terribly disappointed with Blind Melon's "For my Friends." I listened to it for about a week or so straight while I was a dish washer for this restraunt....ugh.

yea I heard a song of theirs...agreed its not the same with out shannon hoon..im afraid this will happen to AIC...and they were a great band..why not leave it at that? instead of trying to re create the sounds..layne and jerry had such harmonizing vocals...its too hard to re duplicate this...

I just called them awol now (alice with out layne)
