Genetic variation of the marijuana plant..
Ok ok, this isn't a thread asking how I can make my plants get me higher(I know some of you will be dissapointed).
There are two things that make me think of this, for one my Biology course has focused heavily on variability and the problems that come when it is limited. Examples of this can be seen in dogs, where breeds have been heavily inbred and suffer specific health problems as a result of the lack of genetic variability. Hip displacia with labradors is an example.
The second thing was a study which showed women were most attracted to men with a very dissimilar immune system to them. The messages were conveyed through sweat on shirts( there are pheremones in sweat). They preffered them because it gave potential off-spring the best chance.
So, with certain strains being bred specificly to reduce variability through inbreeding and such to highlight certain phenotypes, where does genetic variability stand with marijuana? Cheese, white widow, haze etc, the varibility must be fairly low within the strain, but at the same time they must be fairly different to eachother.
So would breeding 2 plants with low genetic variability, but pretty dissimilar genes, result in a healthier daughter plant?

Well you'd be concerned of the high of the plant.
hmm.. i really cant say anything but trial and error. You can have healthier plant but the bud is what you're worried about.

Re: Genetic variation of the marijuana plant..
i would have thought the health of the daughter plant would depend on the actual genes themselves and whether the parents share this recessive gene, but assuming they are both fairly different, i would think that they would overall be healthier, but crossing two of these offspring together may produce a daughter that may have the possibility of getting a genetic condition of either, none, or both of the parents. of course, other genes, such as THC production, may be affected as well
if an inbred dude from tennessee bred with an inbred villager from karachi, they probably wont suffer too many health problems, for example

Thanks, although it concerns genetics, it will probably get more responses here.

Sure, A masters student in biology from UC Irvine I believe used to post in Mad Scientists on totse, but I don't think any of our current regulars have much experience in genetics.
I found this article which has contains some research on the chemical phenotypes of several plants.

yes, hybrid vigor is always going to be an issue in the first couple generations...sorry i can't go much further than that, i'm don't do any breeding..and i don't think we've got any on here, that i know of at least.
